I got the G3, but not for him. I wanted to see some songs from Vai and Satch played live. YM stage prescence was comical w/ his twirlling, leg kicking, and throwing his guitar around his shoulders every 2 minutes. It got old after a while. I like the guys talent and music but not the man himself.

This thread surprises me - I've been on a few forums, and on most of them, some of the members even bash the artist who hosts the forum.
One of the reason's I like this forum is beacuse most people talk about gear, music and artists in a respectful manner and usually don't resort to bashing an artist at this level.
I count Yngwie (notice spelling) as one of the greats, despite his silly stage antics and alleged primadonna attitude. I met him twice and he was a nice guy to me - a little wasted, and very crazy (party animal crazy, not axe murderer crazy) but nice. The first time I met him, he had cancelled the show we were waiting to get into. I was angry about it, then I ran into him and found out that the promoter had failed to arrange for a proper venue - the stage was so small they couldn't even get the drum kit on it.
His playing and music certainly influenced scores of guitarists (myself included) to higher levels of virtuosity - he took what EVH and Randy Rhoads were doing and took it to the next level.
Give the guy a break.

Thank you, glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. This thread doesn't really surprise me though. I've noticed since I joined up, there is quite alot of bashing around here, especially aimed at other guitar brands. Brand loyalty is one thing, but putting down other guitars is not fair.
I can't stand Yngwie either, but he is a helluva musician. I trust that all you "intelligent" EBMM players can understand that. I wonder....would you still hate him if he played an EBMM?

Yngwie can certainly play. I actually like his playing and spend many hours practicing a piece he suggested in a magazine. Talented is an understatement. Yes, he plays strats. Of course, I am not a fan of strats. But, he is making money with music and I am still trying to get his exercise routine down at 1/10th the speed of him...hehehehe...
I met him once. Not a good meeting to say the least. On a personality level, I have first hand knowledge of him being an idiot. He just did not realize I could care less who he is/was and did not back down from him. Shame really, I tend to be calm and respectful of others.
Like him or not, he is doing what he loves for a living even if we don't like his leg kicks, pick throws, guitar twirls, aqua-net hair do (Of which I am jealous.....I'm bald...lol), 70's clothing line, mansions, his stupid comments, releasing the f**king fury, or blazingly fast playing. Did I leave anything out?

Slightly off topic but just an interesting observation.
After a while on this board you notice the one name that fans the flames more than anyone (other than Eddie for obvious reasons) is Yngwie.

I remember when I first heard 'Far Beyond the Sun' back in the day. It literally made me stop in my tracks. I couldn't believe the technique, accuracy, melody, and tone. You've got to give it up to the guy for the impact his playing has had on rock guitar. Before he came to the US as a teenager [!], pentatonic-based hammer-ons/pull-offs, tapping, etc., dominated rock soloing technique.
Sure, Yngwie didn't develop his technique in a vacuum [who does?]. He took elements of Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, Shenker, etc., added his own sensibility, and went from there. To this day, I still love the tone he gets soloing on that stacked humbucker in the "5" neck position.
I admit, these days I can only take his playing/spinal tapisms in small doses, but his playing and attitude had a major impact on me at the time. I was a kid into GBH & Discharge, and this guy made me interested in modes, scales, etc.

That cracks me up. During a [very rare] soundcheck at a recent show, I put my foot up on a floor monitor and immediately had '80s flashbacks of Steve Harris [in spandex, of course] rumbling away on his old P-Bass.

It's all mental. I'm growing my hair out again (last time was in highschool/college) because of Morse, Vai etc.... It gives me the Samson effect
