Here is an example of the private messages that I get and the responses. I have tried time and time again to respectfully ask that people contact customer service instead of me. I will toss this exchange out to the court of public opinion......here is a thread from a guy who is asking me to refinish his evh (at least 11 years old) My response follows and then I get called a punk????? Who is wrong.....

That's lame.

Here's an idea--I know you want to leave PM open so you can communicate with the mods, and such, but don't want to be inundated with PMs from everyone.

Howzabout you turn off the PMs on your Big Poppa user name and create a second user name (I would suggest something other than Big Poppa 2 ;) ) that is only used for PMs. THAT user name you only give to people that have permission to contact you. I'm pretty sure you can even set the other user name to be invisible when you are logged in that way, too.

It will mean having to log out and logging back in to check PMs, but it seems like it might be an option to both have PMs and not have a public PM address.

Just a suggestion. :D

Well, he did thank you for the reply and it was with an exclamation point.

BP, in all my years (all 2 of them) of hangin' on this board, I have yet to PM you or even find a remote reason to. I guess all them years of University studies taught me that if I wanted to get a degree I should talk to my advisor before I talk to the dean. Go figger.

I don't know if this has been discussed before but does the ignore function work on PM's?

Hey BP, can you look around and see if you can find me one of the older Tolex Sterling cases for my TG Sterling............;)

Turn off your PM boss. You are a better man than me having it turned on in the first place. I am certainly not a people person when it comes to exchanges like that.

surely logic dictates that you will get a response from customer service quicker than the ceo of a company....

or even better how about posting that kind of question on the board... surely that is what the board is for!!! anyone who knows this forum will know that posts get answered by someone in the know fairly quickly.

How would this guy feel if folks who work for him went straight to the COB instead of to him?

I think it's a good thing that Sterling hangs out here with us to read about/rebuke our requests, participate in the shenanigans and call us endearing names but let's not get too comfy with him and forget that he is several layers removed from the customer service front lines. We should put ourselves in his Hawaiian shirt and realize that he cannot possibly run EBMM and maintain a one on one relationship with all of us. No other CEO in the bass industry is accessible (via threads) as he is so let's respect his privacy. We have folks like Jon and Beth who will take care of us just as good as (or even better than) BP will and we should give them the opportunity to do what they do well.

BP, mebbe you should remove the "Ernie Ball Customer Service" line above you avatar. Replace it with... I dunno, "Ron Jeremy Protege`" or sumthin.

Yup, that "customer service" title might be confusing to certain non-tool using primates....

Get Chewie to change it to "Chick Magnet" or "Tourist Attraction" or something.

For what it's worth, guys, I think the last time I PMd the Big Guy was last year before Open House. Seriously. And that was because he PMd me first.

Turn the effin' things off, boss. If anyone needs anything, let 'em use the chain of command. Remember when you yelled at me on Saturday? "What do I have you here for???" This is what you have me here for.

Jack

PS: I just had to laugh at some knuckle-draggin' guitarist calling you a punk. There is no other possible reaction. Then of course, we ban him.

i'll leave it to the EBMM forum web programmer to decide how to provide for his number one client.

BP, you're right to be exasperated by this kind of thing. unfortunately, people being faulty by nature can, and in this case do, misinterpret your accessibility and easy-going style with us for more than it is.

we've all been at the ass-end of a tortuous phone tree, trying to get a human voice on customer service. many of us become conditioned to find the highest person on the tree first and subvert as many perceived hurdles to direct contact as possible.

this individual obviously doesn't (yet) know EBMM is not like most companies! it's better.
