Here is the story:
I want to get another Bongo, so I mail Jack. He goes "can't sell abroad, sorry", so I ask (half jokingly) I'f he's interested in selling his Envy green Bongo HH5. Jack says gimme an offer, I give him an offer, we make the deal, I pay fast as hell 'cause I suspect he'll back out of it (I know I would have). Anyway, this happens sometime in september.

Time comes for jack to ship the Bongo to Vegas for me.
He finds the GG case the bass originally came with is too big for any box known to man, so he takes his brand spanking new case he got with the blue HS5 and gives it to me instead. Then he restrings the bass and drops another set of strings in the case, and he includes a black ice PG I told him I wanted for my DG. Did I mention the shipping was on him too?

So there it is: Not only does he sell a Ltd Ed for a very resonable price, he goes far beyond what we agreed on initially, and the moral of this is:

New or used, get yer EBMM basses from Jack (and Dude, when applicable)

Now I'm off playing Ed, the green monster, and all you single H guys can just eat my shorts:D

Love you, jack!

Nothing against policy there. Jack can ship basses to destinations within the US 50 times a day if he chooses. If someone decides to take the silver bird across the water to the US to pickup a bass in person, there's no breach.

You're quite welcome, Strummer.

I also want to ask you about that little package....now the shirt is nice, I understand what it is and how to use it, but what in God's name is that stuff in the little round plastic container?

We opened it here the other night during Bongo Fest '06 and there were some interesting guesses as to what it was and how it might be utilized. Someone said, "It's fish food!" I'm leaning towards some type of tobacco product, but I can't be sure.

It provided entertainment! Thanks for the gift!

As far as selling overseas, BOOST can tell you how careful I am about avoiding the 'grey areas'. If I know a customer plans to take the bass out of the US, even if the shipping address is inside the US, I will not do it. I CAN'T do it. As I told young BOOST the other day, as much as I want to sell the bass, it is effectively subverting the dealer agreement we have with Ernie Ball, and BP is not just the cool CEO that hangs on the forum with us - he's a friend, and I wouldn't knowingly do anything to damage that relationship.

Nor would I buy a bass for myself at dealer prices and then shortly turn it around as a used bass. I paid normal price for the Envy Green Bongo (bought it from Doug at Daddy O's, in fact) a year and a half ago, long before I was officially involved with selling EBMM basses.

I just wanted to make this clear. I know you guys were joking around about the "loopholes" but this is something I deal with almost every day and it's hard to tell people (BOOST, for example) that I can't help them even if I truly want to.

Whew.

Magnus/Strummer is a great guy and I figure I can get another case one of these days. He needed it more than I did.

Enjoy, sir, and send photos of ED in Europe once you get back.

Technically there is no breach, but I won't cover the warranty if something goes wrong Mark. Grey areas are easy to find and weasel around. You would have a very hard time trying to get a foreign dist to help you at all if something goes wrong.

SCENARIO ONE:

Let's say we have a storefront in, say, Gautier, Mississippi. Inside, hanging on the wall, is a Stingray.

A guy walks in, pays cash and off he goes. Later that week, he takes his bass back with him to Latvia.

I can live with that. He still has no warranty, but have I done anything wrong?

Nope.

SCENARIO TWO:

I am an internet dealer. Guy contacts me, says he lives in Latvia but will be in the US on X date. He wants me to order him up a Stingray so he can pick it up and take it back to Latvia. I say, "Sure!"

He has no warranty, and I have I done anything wrong?

Yup.

End of scenarios.

I know you guys get the difference. I go way back with some of you lads and I would do almost anything to help you out. But don't ask me to wander around in the grey area, okay? I do so hate saying no.

Trust me, people get very upset when they buy in the US then take it home and something like a backbowed neck happens. They then find out the price of a new neck with shipping and then the customer blames either Beth or I even though they fully knew the risk that was being taken.

A neck that fails and cannot be adjusted into proper relief using the trussrod adjustment.

Hey, can we get back to loving me?

All this back bowing has me worried. I picked up my Bongo's hang tag the other night cuz it looks cool. I unfolded it and found the warranty card I didn't send in last May! Yikes!

All this back bowing has me worried.

I've certainly owned and now sold my fair share of EBMM basses. A pretty fair representative sample, I'd say. How many bad necks have I seen or had returned?

None. That is to say, zero.

Things happen, especially when you're talking about wood. Those things don't happen very often with EBMM instruments.

So:

A: Don't worry about something that isn't terribly likely to happen.
B: Let's talk more about what a great guy I am.
