If the Bongo had been made with a Splotched Assheart Wood top by some luthier in a cabin in Vermont , all of the Bongo naysayers would suddenly think it was the greatest thing since sliced cheese.

Just sayin'.....

I want a 12 string with a single cutaway and an upper horn that's connected to the headstock and pickup covers to match the top wood! :p

"Splotched Assheart"

:D

And don't let the naysayers get to ya. It just leaves more Bongos for those that appreciate them!

Personally, I think they look great and never quite understood the seemingly vehement response some give the Bongo. I've had the opportunity to play a dual HB 4 stringer at length and was very impressed to say the least. If I was looking to add a wide range of active tones to my arsenal, I would consider one in a heartbeat.

Ah, 'tis back now here as well.

I'm thinking of sending this to John Turner to see if he'll use it as a sticky.

"...snide comments re: Ugly Bongos => vacation from talkbass

i've about had it with the insults and the snide b.s. about Bongos and the musicians who choose to play them. i've dealt with it for over 2 years, and i've dealt with it here from some poor unfortunate ignoramouses ever since i first got here over 4 years ago. most folks ask honest questions about instruments they don't understand or never experienced, and that's fine, any number of the Bongo players on the site here will be glad to share their experiences and answer questions.

but the (thankfully small) gaggle of clucking airheads who feel the need to be insulting about someone else's instrument choice need to adjust their cluck. it's disrespectful and flies right in the face of the #1 rule here at talkbass. we want this site to be a comfortable area for all bassists, and these kinds of comments make that impossible.

so the next time you think you have something funny to say about someone's instrument choice at their expense (nevermind the fact that we Bongo Players have heard it _all_ before, from folks smarter than you even, and they still sounded like idiots) think twice. it very well could cost you the priveledge of posting here."

Of course, most of you know I just replaced "extended range bassists" with something else.

You think it will fly?

I love it!

I never quite understood why he actually scripted that about erb's to begin with, but selah...

And in all seriousness, I hope you Bongo players don't let a very few bad apples on TB (let's even be more honest, they're more "ignorant" than "bad") spoil the experience over there for ya. Most of the core TB'ers are real good folk who have grasped the fine art of stating an opinion without bashing other's.

Not sure it would help...

...but perhaps worth a try.

What's sticking-out in big flashing neon lights is Joshua's comments above re: ingorance.

For some folks, you can fix ignorance by enlightening them, providing an "Oh, my... I never thought of it that way" experience that changes their way of thinking. For most, though, they will remain ignorant.

I blamed their parents... ;)

bitter boutique players

I think their just bitter about spending $5000 on a boutique bass with some wood submerged in the amazon for 300yrs.

In fact, it is us Bongo owners that deserve to be somewhat "high brow" about our basses. The Bongo could well be the only production bass that can look a boutique bass squarely in the eye and back it down.

I also agree with all the earlier comments.

I dont think anyone who owns a bass that looks like the tree in my front yard threw it up should say the Bongo is ugly.

The Bongo (along with the other EBMM basses) are the most consistenly amazing instruments made on the market today.

Ive played MANY "high end" axes that left me wondering, why does this cost 3 times more than a StingRay.

Maybe im just intolerant.

I had enough so I posted this on TB this morning...

"You guys just don't get it. It's not about your opinion, it's about why you feel a need to state an opinion that's been beaten to death. You really shouldn't be saying anything on here that you wouldn't say to our faces, IMO. Ever heard of the Golden Rule? I realise that most of you "Bongo Bashers" have a dangerously low IQ, but try to grasp this for a second.

You play what you want, we'll play what we want. We'll respect that you like to play a POS, 9 string, Rick knockoff , with a Rotten Wood Top that you had to sell your First Born Child and Motor home for bass(or worse a warwick), and you'll STFU about Bongos for the rest of your pea brained life. "

It was promptly locked...
Oh well...It felt good at the time and That crap gets Soo Old.
