Well guys I am reaching that stage in life that inevitably we will all go through!

I have in my opinion a nice collection of Musicman guitars, music man (and other amps- see my sig),
musicman paraphernalia - signed EB Artist photos (very young looking Albert,JP and Steve Morse) a whole collection of EB plectrums - some ya just can't get, a MM Zippo lighter, MM amp badges and a lovely MM fleece that you can't buy!!

Why am I mentioning all this? Well in 2 years I will be selling off a lot of the stuff - My EVH , the hardtail Albert, the aforementioned collection of stuff. It needs to go to a good home, a MM fanatic that will treasure the "stuff". My boys would sell off this collection but I don't want them to go through the hassle.

I'd like to keep my BCB (piezo) Albert( but if someone were to ...) and my LEAL(that will defo stay with me), so don't even ask. The MM (UK version) 1981 RD 50 and matching extension cab, (dare I mention that I will probably sell my Marshall Silver Jub, bottle of Marshall Whiskey signed by Jim a.k.a unobtainium, the silver jub drinks coasters and provenance around my Marshall trip - there's a thread on the forum about this! - ooops have mercy on me Mods!).
I will keep the RP65 1 x 12 - that has to be one of THE best amps!!!

I'm just being pragmatic about this -In 2 years, when I retire, I will be putting a lot of my money into getting a DMC 12 imported from The States/Canada, and already have a few irons in the fire on this.

So - don't ask me to sell now, i wont be pick pocketed or lowballed - it's not gonna happen - but if anybody wants any info feel free to contact me on Spudwales at goooooogle male doot kom.

Noted;) I'd much prefer to keep it - but if an offer comes along that I can't refuse ..... like the time someone here pinged me and said "No chance of you selling your JP6 fully loaded is there?" - well I wasn't looking to but money talked lol

It's all good if we're going to talk about how we all will be tackling our collections as we get older ... less good if this is a large for sale thread ;)

Yeah cheers Beej - I'm assuming MM related stuff would be ok to advertise - but I'm unsure whether a collection of MM (only) plectrums for example, would be allowed under forum rules?
This will be a collection of MM paraphernalia that maybe a lot of guys here would want?
Of course, I'll keep "other brands" off here and people know how to contact me anyway.

It's something that everyone at some stage will have to do and I'd rather give guys on here the option before I put it elsewhere. We hear the term "thinning the herd" and in reality this will have to be done - otherwise my wife will sell the guitars for what I told her they cost - in one instance £250 brand new oooooops

I'll be 40 in July and this topic has crossed my mind as well. Now I'm 15-20 years away from "selling" anything but plan A is to hope the boys (almost 3 and almost 1) take an interest in music and want to play. I also have to hope that my almost 3yo who is showing left handed tendencies (both grandpas are lefties) decides he wants to play the right way or takes up the drums...

Hi Stratty - my Les Paul will be theirs! (one already has a unique custom guitar built for me in the 80's.)

so funny the other week when a room full of musos were treating the Les Paul with great reverence!!
- its one of the facts of life - I'm 61 at the moment and this "garage sale" will happen when I'm 63 - I'm giving people plenty of warning that I will be doing this.

At least they'll only have a DMC 12 to get rid of lol

I cringe at having to do this one day with all the stuff I have...but the truth is, it will have to be done.

As I have no kids, I'd consider GIVING my MM away : organize a contest and send them to the forumites who write the best motivation letters.

But as I'm "only" 40, it might take a while.

Cool?

Ha ha nice one chaps! Let me temper this with the comment that it's not all doom and gloom - I intend being around for quite a while yet and still playing my guitar!

As people have said - it will happen to them one day!!
In two years time it will be a major milestone for me - I'll be retiring after 41 years service to her Majesty, the keys to the Aston Martin and rocket Launcher will be handed back, and I intend to apply my "problem solving capabilities" to a car project.
I always intended to do this and spent many an hour restoring a 54 bug and building a 60 baja bug - now sadly both sold off (damn kids!! ha!)

It's only in the last couple of years I planned to work on a DMC 12. I'm in contact with a guy who was at Delorean from the start and handed over the keys to the receiver when his consortium's plans to rescue the business fell by the wayside - DMC 12's were going to be produced along with the TR7 and TR8 (under the Healey name). Twins turbos were to be fitted as a matter of course and retro fitting options available, turning the Delorean into a Porsche eater. Alas the "Dunmurray Motor Company" never came to fruition.

So, no two ways about it, for the various reasons discussed gear will go and I'll manage with the basic requirements. The overall collection I have of MM Guitars, amps, paraphernalia, I'm sure be appreciated by someone(s) ;) who has the same kind of MM passion? I'll bump this every 4 months or so leading up to my retirement.

As I say, get saving, and thanks for listening ;)

When I retire (not for at least 25 years yet), I think that my EBMM collection will surge in massive quantities. At least, that's my goal! Wishing you the best Spud! Thanks for thinking of us knuckleheads. Until then, keep on rocking brother!

They don't let you keep the Aston? Jerks. I assume you at least get a gold watch for that period of service (with a laser/explosives/x-ray vision)?

When my father retired (13 years ago now) he went on a guitar buying spree....Now he never touches them. He bought weird stuff, though. A Blues Jr (I've got that now), a Parker acoustic and a few of those Michael Kelly electrics. Every so often he asks me to ebay them, but nobody is buying those.

I'm in my 40's and I have no children, so I know I'll have to face selling everything off eventually. I think my goal will be to play as much as possible before that point.

Yeah losing the Aston is gonna hurt lol

Well gear is a moot point - I think I'll be pretty much ok with what I have to sell - "Blue chip gear", I think overall.

I think I'll cover the £285 I spent when I bought my new Les Paul in 1974 ;) - I think I should recoup the money outlaid an a lot of my gear - The Marshall Silver Jub is really sought after,

I don't think I'll lose on my MM amps /Guitars too.

I'll still be playing after retirement though, that's for sure.

Well Spud after the Brexit the Dolorean price may become even more outrageous

Good luck with your projects. Retirement is still 15 or 17 years ahead for me so I didn't start to have those plans yet but it's good to think ahead like you do.
