Tough one with all the different genres of music. My take is:

1)John Petrucci
2)Eddie Van Halen
3)SRV
4)Randy Rhoads
5)Jimi Hendrix

These theads come up from time to time, but always fun read, I like way too much music to say top five period, so mine is always who I am currently listening to the most.

So right now order means nothing

Eric Johnson
Jeff Beck
Steve Lukather
Eric Clapton
David Gimour

Atleast someone noticed

Mine remins fairly constant although i admire most players i hear. A clear no.1 for me, with the other guys all in a draw behind. All special for different reasons.

1. Steve Lukather - An unreal musician. A boundary crosser. Jack of all trades, master of all! Simply the best of his generation (and nearly everyone elses) humour and an nice nice bloke.
John Petrucci - total technique and feel. Still makes me grin when i hear him due to unreal talent.
Mark Knopfler - elegance and taste. Tone and maturity
Brad Paisley - Brilliant player in his genre and world beating when he plays his ebmm
Steve Morse - Jaw dropping technique, genre crossing musician, inspirational.

If i could i would include David Gilmour here too. He definately touches a nerve in his style, tone and taste.

But for me... Luke is clear Number 1.
