Copyright issues which I get

But out of all the Thousands of cover on youtube of hendrix that have been up for years my get taken down after 2 weeks?

Has this happened to anyone else here?

I covered a new song by Kenny Chesney but this time did not play the song note for note as I did with the Hendrix cover.
Especially the solo section.

Sorry to hear that, John. No idea what made yours any different, copyright wise, than the thousands of other cover tunes on youtube, other than yours was actually good.

That sucks John. At least I got a chance to check it out. You're not selling the song, just showing all how you play it. Doesn't make sense to me either.

Well John, maybe it's a compliment.
You played it too good.
You really nailed it.

I only play portions of songs on YouTube so I'm not doing covers (in my opinion).
Also, my mediocre playing is not going to threaten anyone's copyright. No one in their right mind is going to play my version in preference to the original artist's version. lol
In fact, listening to my "rendition" will most likely encourage the listener to buy the original version - so they can hear how it's supposed to sound.

JD, perhaps the problem was that you played the song too well. :D

Kenny Chesney Better As A Memory YouTube Cover

Well I did get a follow up email from the Hendrix camp...
And yes it was because of the use of the original recording in the background
and that fact I tried to get every note like the original did not help me at all!

I understand 100% and respect there choice to take it down...
But I also see another side to it that it may have brought new fans to Jimi Hendrix..
You know younger players that may never have heard The Wind Cries Mary...

This new Video cover of Kenny Chesney was a dedication to a very sick little girl who asked me if I could cover her favorite song 'Better As A Memory"

So I did.

If they take one down for copyright, they should take them all down I would think. I think they should leave them, because it's exposure for John and Jimi.

Similarly, FOX made all the Simpsons fan websites shut down about 10 years ago, whereas, George Lucas lets the Star Wars fansites thrive and fuel the passion for his creation. It only generates more interest and as long as people aren't making money off it, he's cool with it.

Sorry you got the P-U-Tube axe.
I had the audio removed from my "Crossroads" solo where Warner (eff'n) Music Group thought that I was playing along with Cream's original live recording. Petty.

Protect the musicians, not the big corporations, use copy protection on their albums. I have no problem with buying albums. I do not copy CDs, really. As a one-time songwriter I have empathy for the musicians.
