Well done Sterling.....and welcome Mr P! Its a real honour being part of a forum at times like these!

Enjoy the new guitar. I may have one just like it in about 9 months time maybe....!

Look foward to hearing new DT material in the new year maybe and finally get to hear what you have heard already in the studio!

Thankyou...

Anyone want to buy a kidney and maybe a couple of legs? Anything you don't need to play guitar is on offer....

As a former employee of that particular store I can say - don't bother. Ever tried banging your head against a brick wall? Ever get anywhere? Let them be ignorant, that's the way they like it. You know why? They cannot sell you a proto that's not hanging on their wall. If you can't buy it today, the salesman is not really interested in what you have to say.

I understand they want to move what they have, it's typical poor salesmanship. I just look at it from the EBMM perspective. They have a stocking buyer who knows nothing about EBMM and even steers people away from them (at this location).
I told the guy as soon as the new JP is out I'll be there first in line. He tells me it isn't coming out and to buy a PRS. I'm getting rid of my PRS...and Guitar Center.

I bought a Sub 1 from them the other day. The guy tried to talk me OUT of buying it...tried to steer me to, guess what...a PRS.

I'm probaby being a bit picky as I am a sales manager for a rep firm. If I worked for EBMM this situation would irk me. Not much they can do, I suppose.

There you have it. Making this guitar for JP is when you find out just how good you are as a team and company. It's easy to sit back and think your're real good, but this is when you have to back it up.
I believe that this guitar was an exercise in proving the teams interpretation, design and execution of the dreams and wishes from one on the most gifted and precise guitarist's in history.

It was a no pain no gain deal and I appreciate john's patience as he appreciated ours.

Now before I tear a rotator cuff congratulating ourselves...back to our regular programming.

HOW COOL IS IT THAT JP DROPPED EVERYTHING AND POSTED HERE???????

Unbelieveable.

Between the way this company stands behind it's customers and the way their endorsed artists go out of their way to to talk to chumps like us and entertain our criticisms... well, I just don't know what to say.

I could die a happy man right now. :D

Hi everyone. I have a minute here in the studio and I thought I'd drop a line and let you know my thoughts about the latest JP design. First of all, a huge thanks to Sterling for never straying from his original commitment to me which was to build me the ultimate guitar, the ultimate tool and not stop until it's right. You are the best! Also, to Dudley and Drew, thanks for all of your hard work in making this guitar...the many different protos and phone conversations. You are both truly artists in this field. Let me also start by saying that I still love my current JP model and will continue to play it and stand by it. So, on to the latest model... First of all it's an absolute work of art and is brilliantly crafted. You really have to see it in person to fully appreciate how stunning it is. I started tracking with it yesterday, and the combination of alder with the mahogany block and maple top, along with the mahogany neck makes for the best sounding guitar I've ever heard. The guitar rings like a monster stirred from a deep hibernation with the full sonic spectrum being resonant and in your face. As for the design changes, my idea was to take the current model to the next level as far as hot rodding. Think of it as a Petrucci muscle car/guitar. The change in the bottom horn and slight body and contour changes all have to do with fret access and technique facilitation. The pickup rings were added for aesthetics and flexibility and present no problems for me. Anyway, I can go on and on, but there's my initial reaction to the guitar after having it now for 24 hours. Thanks for all of your interest, passion and support for this guitar and Ernie Ball!
All the best,
John Petrucci

Thank you very much for the informative post, John.

Utimately, your input is the only thing that matters concerning the outcome of this guitar. So for myself, I find your comments the most fascinating and am eager to hear more. :)

In celebration of JP's post here and the awesome progress of the next generation of JP EBMM's, how about some "Me with JP" pics? :D

I will kick it off:

Muggin' it up with JP and MP in Dallas on the Gigantour:

I think it's excellent that EBMM is a company that takes on board the continuing views of the artists who endorse the guitars. Far to many companies just produce one model, which is no real variant from the rest of the product line. I also love the fact that we get the sneak preview on the new guitars as well (even though it causes some problems with soiling!!)

It's also fantastic to see the signature artists interacting on these forums. I'm sure that they've got a massive workload, but for them to take the time and trouble to explain, or comment on something is wonderful.

From a personal point of view, the JP sig's don't really do it for me. Having said that though, I can appreciate the time, skill and love that goes into both the design and construction of them. I also recognise that It's a guitar built for one (very talented) person and their input is all that matters.

I've also realised that a guitar like this one would be wasted on me, as I play about one note every three seconds (and 50% of the time it's the wrong one!!!)

I really hope that the new model is a success for the company and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I love my Sport.

Thanks for posting JP - taking time out from your busy schedule just to respond to the comments here about the latest proto is well above and beyond the call of duty.

It is fascinating to get an insight like that into the reasoning behind the changes to the design of the guitar, and appreciated by everyone here I am sure.

Looking forward to hearing more comments after you've had a chance to live with it for more than 24 hours! :D

This is the BEST forum on the internet!

that is correct :)

really gotta love it here. plain n simple its just cool taht jp took some time to post what is a mini fraction of his thoughts on HIS, soon to be, new guitar.

he sounded really excited... i can see how pops n crew are stoked. i mean, building a guitar to the exact specs (tone, weight, balance, access, playability) of someone with JPs needs & wants can not be anywhere near easy!

I'm always a little disappointed when people post negative comments about new products/prototypes here. Please remember Big Poppa is sharing things with us that other companies would never ever dream of sharing. Have a little faith in the EBMM team. They have never let us down yet. I can't wait to see them.

Amen to that, Colin. Like BP said, the JP Proto "is really close". I'm sure it's still going to be tweaked a few times before the design is finalized. Us EBMM fans are very lucky here. We're given the opportunity to have an inside look at the workings of this great company. I for one am very grateful. Just like the vast majority of the forumites. As for the Prototype, I think it looks great. As for others saying they don't like the bottom horn, I'd have to say it did look a little odd when I first saw it, but the more I see it I'm getting use to it.......and I bet it plays like a dream.:D

What an amazing forum this is. John Petrucci takes the time to post and comment on his new prototype. That is very cool. Thanks for taking the time to give us your thoughts. And don't be a stranger. I'm sure we'd all love to have you post to keep us updated on how things are going.

If John is already using it to record, after only having it for such a short time then you know it has to be a killer guitar. I bet its an absolute tone monster. I think this new JP is going to be added to my collection:D

If posible I would like to ask 2 questions:

1.- Why no more scoop (one of my favourite features of my EBMM JP), and on the same topic, is the new scoop better?

2.- I thought people mentioned the pick up "retainers" affected the tone on a negative way, I guess that was just a rumour?

Personally I love my EBMM JP, I love the finish its uniqueness etc, and I am sure its just time so I can get used to this new model (visualy). The only things that are a puzzle to me are the 2 questions above.

Props on Sterling for developing such guitars, props for JP for posting here and in general the honest actitude on this forum / company.

First of all, hello (I didn't found any kind of introduction topic so...). Actually, I will change my main buying choice to the Silo instead of the MM JP. If is JP changes, how can we say no? But on other hand this guitar get a little ugly. Like a beaultiful woman with one plastic surgery(lower horn) and lots of makeup(neck binding and wood mounted rings). and it looks like an "Ibanez RG Prototype" with this lower horn. Actually I will pray to JP keep his actual JP model. But from now on, I will not buy that thing, XD.
