Pedalboard's since been updated, but it goes roughly like this-

131_3141.jpg

Plus a few other cabs- open back 2x12, closed 2x12 and a sweet sweet old Marshall 4x12 with pre-Rola greenbacks in it.

The Guytron head, btw, is the best amp I've ever played through- hands down.

Btw, I milled the pedalboard so I could fit the power supply underneath-

Norrin, man nice setup, now do you run the POD thru the Orange cabinet or the preamp as well? You like those ZVEX pedals? I've seen the Nano head and thought it was interesting, though very expensive.

Glenn |B)

Thanks Glenn -

Yeah - for the most part I don't run the Pod through the amp all the time - only when I want a very specific effect that's in the POD (which isn't extremely often - but is fun once in a while - plus it saves lots of dough from having to buy a ludicrous amount of pedals!). What I do in those circumstances is run it into the effects loop, use a user preset that has no info programmed into it and then bypass the "amp model" on the POD. I use the "Input" & the "Left Out" or "Right Out" (the amp is mono so it doesn't matter) for running into the loop. (at least, I think that's how I do it! - if not, I'll check when I'm in front of it tomorrow and see - maybe I'm into the POD with the guitar and out some other way - I'll get back to you on that! ) One way or another, it's like having a nice big effects unit in the loop wihtout a lot of hassle. Mostly I use it for running into the computer into Garageband.

As for the Zvex stuff - he makes some really cool pedals. BUT, a lot of them are very out there - the 2 I have are the ones that worked for me - a very simple boost pedal (with a >5 med input impedance boost), that I use set at volume unity with the amp. I use it strictly for the input boost and only on the clean channel - anybody with single coils would love how doing this breathes life into your tone! The BOR is also an awesome pedal - and it works as advertised - old Marshall in a box (for real this time!). There are great demo videos on Zach's site that explain the things way better than I can.

We all had to start somewhere. I felt it would be great to help us all align up with fellow friends here and talk shop in a new way. If I can ever help I am happy to do so. I have had a lot of gear and am always happy to offer what I have learned over the years.

Let me tell you this: that was a great comment Duolos. Thanks for the offering.:)

So... my setup right now its:

-Peavey Special 212 (I know solid state... :( I was really young when I bought it)
-Boss GT-8 this is a really NICE unit the effects are very good and using it in the FX loop improves my tone by heaps and bounds.

So as an up and coming guitar player and in search of a more serious tone, Im in search of an amp. My musical influences are VERY diverse but I'll say some of them to give you and idea.

Songwriters: Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson, Steven Wilson, David Gilmour.
Guitar Players: David Gilmour, John Petrucci, James Hetfield, Andy Timmons, SRV

So, with that in mind Im looking for an amp that can give me Power in my Riffs (Think S&M of Metallica) but also beautiful cleans (Think Andy Timmons or even some good pop stuff) killer lead tones think John Petrucci in SFAM/Final Solo in Octavarium and last but not least vintage/blues tones in this case Gilmour.

Im thinking I might need two amps to accomplish this, say a Mesa Boogie LoneStar and other high gain amp.

Also, Im not in a band right now (but looking for one actually) and my budget well its kind of limited at the moment but Im willing to work and save for something that is totally worth it.

Im open to suggestions :D

Pretty demanding for a 21 year old with no album

What do you have, what do you want, what do you like, dislike? What styles do you play etc? Post pics. Let it RIP

I am a metal head and prefer thrash type stuff. I play a lot of styles but prefer heavy. I will post pics when I get home.

[Turn on Monty Python mode] Right! Stop that! That's just plain silly!! [Turn off Monty Python mode] :D :D

Seriously, that's some collection you have there, very nice... I'm currently surviving with my Fender DeVille 410, which suits me fine! I am still looking for another nice, small tube amp though...

I appreciate your kind words. You never mentioned a budget but from my experience without totally breaking the bank, I have found tremendous versatility out of my mesa Mark IV. You will probably need two amps to do what you are desiring but the Mesa Mark IV covers a lot of ground in those various tones you made mention of. Hope that helps some :)

why don't you offer me your Diezel VH4. Those things kill it. I wish I could swing one of those. Do you love it?

The Diezel VH4 is a very nice amp. It really needs to be used in the proper element to get the most out of it. Amazing versatility and is built like a tank. It is not a full blown metal amp IMO. Lots of gain but on the dry side. Not a lot of saturation but it is gainy and very full and big sounding. Some people say it lacks gain but I think hey are referring to saturation. It records really well and cuts nicely. A huge amount of quality tones in it. I really like it and usually run it in stereo with a wetter, more saturated amp and get AMAZING results. It is a very fast amp and has no sag which is great in a wetter stereo mix with a very saturated amp such as the Bogner Uberschall. They both enhance a lot of each others dynamics for a very BIG and full sound.

Duolos: yeah as of now I dont have a budget. Actually it is $0 but I like to set a goal and the accomplish this. In this case the amp.

Actually I've had a MarkIV a combo one a friend left it at my place for a month or so., it is a great amp and that was my first option but it has SO many knobs. I felt really dumb using it..

I think I'll go with a Mark IV head with a 4x12 cab. :)

...and perhaps later a Mesa Lone Star

Here's what I use...In a sense, since I need to get a cabinet (2x12) for the Mesa...:(

Roadster.jpg

DG JP6/piezo and a modded OLP in C-Tuning with AN/DS combo.

I also have a Spider II 15, but that doesn't deserve a pic. I also have a Crybaby 535Q.

Oh, I'm not some rich kid either, I WORKED for all this stuff. :)

Main guitar: EBMM JP7 -> custom-made stereo cable (Canare L-4E6S cable with Neutrik connectors) to split magnetic and piezo signals as follows:

Magnetic side: BOSS GT-6 -> BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer -> Peavey Classic 50/50 power amp -> Genz Benz G-Flex 212 (stereo in rehearsals, mono on stage)

Piezo side: Peterson StroboStomp -> Yamaha AG-Stomp -> PA

Additional info: The GT-6 and AG-Stomp are "linked" via a BOSS FV-300L stereo expression pedal. One side of the expression pedal controls volume on the AG-Stomp, the other side controls volume on the GT-6. Patches are programmed to allow blending between magnetic and piezo sounds using the expression pedal. In the "toe" position, it's 100% piezo, in the "heel" position, it's 100% magnetic. In the middle, both signals are 100%, and i can blend anywhere in between.

The rack is powered by a Numark power conditioner, and the rack is hooked to the pedalboards using a PedalSnake, which supplies power to the GT-6 and AG-Stomp, and takes the audio out from the GT-6.

I'm also planning on building a "compact" version of the power section using a Crate PowerBlock (just scored one off eBay) and i'll be building a ported 1x12 cab with either an Electro-Voice EVM-12L driver or an Eminence Delta Pro 12A.

Once you learn the amp it is not so bad. It is a nice one indeed.
