Hi folks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place (I've used the search function... honest) but I'm trying to get some info on a Sterling that I've just purchased (used). It's a Cherryburst (I managed to find that much out myself) 4 string # F06634. Can you help or give me a push in the right direction?

Cheers

sterling, here's the info: Your Sterling in Cherryburst with a maple fretboard and a matching headstock was completed on 02/06/03 and was originally shipped to The Music Castle in Royal Oak, Michigan. nice -

Long time no see, but it have been busy times. Anyway, I decided to go for a 5-string again and so I found a nice NOS Stingray 5. Serial says L58361. Can you give me the DOB for this bass please? By the way, it's a delight to play. Nice weight and super tone.

Thanks in advance!

Please don't forget me ;)

Sorry, MF, for not getting to you earlier - and congratulationsd on your new bass! Serial # L58361 refers to a left-handed Black StingRay 5 with a rosewood fretboard. It was originally shipped to GC #224 n El Cerrito, Ca on 8/12/98. Was it really still considered new?

First of all, no problem that you didn't get back to me earlier! What you do is much appreciated and I just wanted to give my post some kind of bump.
Well, the bass was listed as 'in good shape', and actually, it really is in good shape... But what you told about the date of birth is rather strange, 'cause the seller told me the bass was from 1995... But you say it was brought to life on December 8th, 1998...
Well, anyway, it sounds and plays amazing. Although it took a few days to get used to, coming from 4-bangers, I actually prefer the SR5's string spacing now...

Thanks a lot !

Sam, since we at EBMM didn't start making left-handed basses until 1996, it would've been pretty difficult for it to be a 1995 model. The first lefties didn't ship from the Ernie Ball factory until February 2006. ;)

The old Music Man company did offer left-handed versions while they were around. Not too many were built though.

Dan, can you tell me something about parts of my SR5? Body was made ash, basswood or maple? Pickup has neodymium or alnico 5 magnets? Thanks for info.

I'm not Dan, sorry, but your SR5 has an Ash body and the pickup magnets are ceramic...

details please for the SR5 I got earlier today.

I dont plan on taking the neck off anytime soon to see as its just too playable the way its set up

E11290

thanks

Komp

Komp, glad you're not removing the neck! That is a last resort to find the production date and it still isn't usually accurate. Especially when you have us to let you know the correct date. ;):D

Your bass was completed on December 8 1999 and was shipped to the UK. The finish is called Pearl Lavender, and the neck is maple with a matching headstock.

^^^ what he (mynan) said ...

Are you sure that my pickup magnets are ceramique (I thought that is the same pickup like Bongo basses installed in)? Maybe I should to show you photos of my pickup for better orientation?
Is that good idea for replacement my pickup another one has alnico 5 magnets (Seymour Duncan for example)?
Is that true that all Stingray 5's electronic scheme for preamps is the same (for alnico 5, ceramique and neodymium pickups)?
Thanks for info.

Dan probably won't check back in until Monday, but only Bongos come with neodymium pickups. If your SR5 has the original pickup, it is ceramic. Also, your SR5's preamp is designed specifically to work with the ceramic pickups and because of that, it is different from an SR4 preamp, which has alnico pickups.

Ok, so what can you tell me about SR5 made with alnico 5 or ceramique pickups? They have the same preamp onboard mounted in?
Now I'll waiting for Dan's opinion about type of magnet rods in my pickup (if he will coming soon).;)

All SR5s made from around 1992 to 2007 had ceramic pickups (except the 20th anniversary SR5). SR5s made before around 1992 had alnico pickups. All new (2008) SR5s will have alnico pickups. The preamps for SR5s with ceramic pickups are different than the preamps for SR5s with alnico pickups.
