EDIT: Just realised I forgot to do the controls on the burst, I'll fix that later.

Hey Roon,

While your at it...could you slap on a 3 tone classic burst?

I want a burst bongo...but I think classic would be killer...love the Mape

Hi Mk,

I'm not too good at bursts, I've only attempted it once before when I was matching a headstock for a Warmoth bass I Photoshopped. This was a bit more tricky because I had to sample all the colours and try and get the grain of the wood to show through, which it didn't really. I think that may be because it's basswood which doesn't look very grainy. Anyway, I couldn't figure out how to keep the reflections of the body contours over the burst, but I think it doesn't look too bad. Here you go; :)

The Candy Apple Red with maple neck would be awesome. The headstock wouldn't even have to match, and it would be great.

Sup jasper,

Candie Apple is a hard colour to capture, the bass ended up just looking red. Anyway, here it is! I matched the headstock because I'll let you all in on a secret, the "maple neck" in the picture is actually a rosewood neck that I coloured to look like maple, so it doesn't have the exact same colour and grain, although it is as close as I could get it. So I tried making a natural maple headstock and it just looked weird next to my "DIY" maple fretboard.

And all of them together. :)

Great Thread!

I have a huge preference for maple boards. One of the reasons I bought my StingRay was that it was one of the few basses that is available to lefties with a maple board. :D

I'd love to have a Bongo 5 or 6 (I figure that they'll be available for lefties eventually) but the no-maple option currently makes it a no go for me. :(

Cheers

I'm glad you guys like them. It would be cool to see pictures of maple boarded Bongo prototypes if they ever made any.

Cheers,

I'd buy one today... not kidding!

The options available for the stingray basses should be available on the bongo.
I own a bongo 4 and I'd like to buy a 5 strings bass soon. I really love the sound of the bongo but, beside, I can't resist maple fretboards  so I'm torn apart between the stingray 5, the sterling 5 and the bongo 5.

Make it easier for me plz! :D yepee for the maple neck bongo! ;)

Same here man. I love me some Bongo, but I LOVE maple boards too.
I mean rosewood is sweet, but a Bongo with maple would be so awesome!

Yipee for maple in general. :D

I think the Bongo would look cool with a maple neck and a non-matching headstock!!!

Nice PS Roon.

THANKS! That is COOL...Yeah...the Basswood Grain..but they could do something similar to the 'burst' effect on the sequoia gold...start with a color in the middle and burst it out..man that looks sweet.

Remember that Bongos have painted necks. All this instruments may look good from the front, but from the side, a maple board against a solid color, it might not. Also, a natty headstock would be weird. They should offer unfinished necks on the Bongos, like on most of the other EBMMs.

love it!

I've always had maple, I'm due to recieve my first rosewood any day now (Bongo5).

My decision would have been a lot harder to make had this been available.

Well done

ahh but it does not have to stay painted !!:D

You've made that bongo a one-of-a-kind. I would say 'do the headstock' but that would mean getting rid of the EBMM BONGO logo which I would just be wrong. Personally I wouldn't have the guts to do that, I just leave the decisions down to BP.

It would be interesting in a few years time to see a special edition Bongo with maple board and unpainted neck/headstock.
