Fantastic info on the influences that went into that guitar.

When the light catches it, it really does look look awesome.

Love that.

Interesting points to me:

- the lead in sound clip is off Once in a LiveTime which was during his Ibanez years...
- he says he still plays the original basswood JP (obviously not live)
- the video's JPX logo is slightly different than the web site's JPX logo
- JP motions that the 6 (?) chambers are only above the pups and not on the lower/controls side of the body

I didn't notice the Once in a Lifetime thing but I did notice the rest.

In particular, the fact that he never seems to play his original JP turns me off a bit to the guitar. I want (and I'm buying) a JP in the next 2 months. I just cant decide which one and the fact that he never plays the original one has made my decision harder considering that is the one I like the most (unfinished neck).

Why would JP's personal preferences affect your own?

Trust your ears and hands when buying any guitar... it's about what YOU want, and what YOU want shouldn't be based on what other people like.

+1. Thats always the biggest thing for me when buying a guitar. See how it feels in your hands, and how it sounds when you're playing it. If you had the same gear as JP down to the exact rig, you still wouldn't sound like JP. Everyone's hands are different, so don't let what an artist is playing affect your own judgement of the instrument you want. If you want the standard JP with the unfinished neck, go for it.

For those who can't see it well, you can put it on the highest quality and enlarge the screen, helps a lot. To change the quality, I think you have to click on the title of the video to go to the actual Youtube video, and then select it near the bottom of the screen.

Because it's an evolution of the same guitar. If the BFR is the next step in the evolution of the perfect guitar and better in every way than the original, then of course I care and of course it effects my decision.

Doesn't that make sence to you?

Just because its perfect for JP doesn't mean it'll be perfect for you though. With every guitar, I would try out the ones you can get your hands on, try them out and see what appeals to you.

Also, I don't necessarily think that EB and JP built the BFR to be better than the original, I think they just wanted something different. The standard JP's and BFR's are amazing instruments and I'm sure the JPX will be no different.

Not really.

Basswood original JP's vs. BFR JPs vs. JPx's... I don't believe that any one of them is inherently better than the other one. They're all just different.

The composition of tonewoods, for example, is an important thing to consider and of course it affects your decision, as it should. But because the "next evolution" of the JP has different woods in it, it doesn't mean it's inherently better than the old one is or was. Just different.

I think what you're trying to say is that you're concerned about which incarnation of the JP to buy because you want one that fits YOU best, and you think this next one might be "IT" for you, but you're not sure. Am I right?

Nice! John has always seemed very knowledgeable.

Still no sound clips or demos, though :( I was kinda hoping to see one here.

Quite possible that there are some coming soon. We don't know exactly what the EB team has going on... this was just posted today, let's give it some time.
