I just had a quick question for those in the know...

I found these pictures over on the guitar forums. It's a JP ROASTED model. Does the Black Sugar color have gold flake in it, or is that just the flash causing it to look that way? Also (it's kind of hard to tell by the photos as they are sort of washed out) - are they SUPER sparkly (larger flake - hope not)? The link to the photos in the original post looks as though it's SMALL sliver flake/sheen but not an even spreading of the "sugar" (if that makes sense). Any info would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know about your finish questions, but that neck looks awesome!

I hope they all look that good.

Oh man, I love that finish! It reminds me of a very stary night out in the desert. Especially if it is a clear night with no moon. I can't wait to get my Bongo now!

Is this a prototype or did they start to ship those already?

It looks to be a finished production model, as that is JP's actual personal guitar. There was one photo of him playing it, but I didn't post it as it was kind of blurry and you really couldn't see any detail.

There is a thread on the guitar side where they talk about it, they link to JP's own forum, and that's where the pictures are posted. The guy (with the ink) holding the guitar was helping JP out at a gig and got to give his Roasted model a spin.

Like I said, it looks to be a full production model - JP just got his early (as would be expected). Possibly, he's "torture testing" it...

I know it's well past the order time on these, but if a maple board would have been an option instead of the ebony EBMM would be making me a Big Al 4SSS right now.

Question for "those in the know"...

Will the bodies on the Roasted SR5's all be swamp ash?

Or swamp ash AND alder?

Will any other woods aside from those two choices be used?

Also... any more pictures of finished products ready?

I'd LOOOOVE to see a pic of a Roasted SR5... I'm like THIS "_" CLOSE to putting a deposit down on a stock order at my favorite store... some good eye candy might totally push me over the edge. ;)

Addison,
The only thing that changed with the Roasted Maple package was the neck and fingerboard wood, body finish (black sugar), and BFR inlays. Nothing else was changed, so an SR5 would still have the standard ash body.

Unfortunately, the ordering window for these pieces closed at the end of August. Get into touch with some dealers (especially Dubaldo Music, The Perfect Bass, and Bass Central) to see if they ordered any extra stock that you can put your name to!

Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Ok... I had noticed on the site that for the SR4 and SR5 it says "Select Hardwoods" for the body wood... so I assumed that means it's open to what they have available and dependent on whether the finish is a solid color or not.

OTOH, the Classic series specifically says "Swamp Ash"... so the desciption for the SR4 and SR5 seem a little more open to interpretaion.

That's why I was asking.

Yeah... unfortunately I have been literally beaten down with crappy personal issues over the last two months... so I wasn't able to get my order in on time.

I'm actually looking for a LEFTY SR5 right now... so I'll need all the luck I can get.

Thanks for your help!

I know I have at least one Bongo 4H and (possibly) an SR4 2eq and BigAL 4 SSS available, along with a gaggle of guitars. Email me for details!

I might be very interested in the Big Al 4 SSS! I have a couple things coming but I NEED a Big Al to go with my 255th 4 HH!!!! I am hopeful to find one in the 9 pound or under range due to a back injury. The weight could be my Achilles heal but I am hopeful!!!
:D

Peace,

T

Wow..and I mean WOW...

So, a friend of mine was wondering about the roasted necks, and I started looking on TB for info... That led me here.. Since coming here, I've read through a couple of threads..Here's what I've come to:

I will never purchase another Ernie Ball or MM product for as long as I live. You people should be downright ashamed of how you treat your customers, regardless of how well you make instruments.

Sterling, you should leave moderating these forums to someone with some tact.

Feel free to erase this or mark it as whatever or whatever I'm certain you will do...this place seems almost like a police state.

Hopefully, I have dissuaded my friend from buying a MusicMan.
