American Idol Winner!

We all have to keep in mind that perception is 90% of reality. I would agree that many of the idol contestants are purely entertainers. However the competition does have its fair share of musicians as well....Taylor Hicks, the winner, played guitar and was responsable for lead vocals in his band. Many of these "entertainers" also play instruments its just that American Idol doesn't choose to showcase that. What is the definition of musician anyhow... somebody who creatively plays and instrument or expresses them selves musically, would that be including but not limited to singer/songwriters? Are Jim Morrison and James Brown musicians? I guess that can be up for debate and would be argued according to(here it is again) PERCEPTION. I don't beleive anybody that watches AI is looking for the next Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix......there just looking to be entertained by some great singers(some musicians some not, according to my perception of the competition). Apples are Apples...do you go to the Zoo looking to ride a roller coaster? Take it for what it is....watch it.....don't watch it....support it....don't support it. But i don't think its fair to bash the talents and creditabilty of the contestants, they knew what type of competition they were joining. Can i nominate Derek Brooks to be the 1st competitor in American Guitarist? Hmmmmmm' :D

Okay - I watch too...

Not embarassed to admit it - if nothing more I find it entertaining.

And to be quite honest, as a husband and father of two young boys, there is just not much "family entertainment" available in prime time. Idol is probably the only TV show that my whole family can watch, enjoy, discuss and debate together.

I am certain this is a big part of it's popularity. :)

That is a great point. I never even considered that, mine has already moved out on his own.

Beth, thanks for bringing up EB Radio - I love that, it rocks!

I'm proud to say that I've never seen a single episode of AI.

Maybe I ought to become a contrarian investor?

Now if you have any Bob the Builder or Winnie the Pooh questions, I'm your man. (My kids are 4 and 2.)

I watch it. It is funny and entertaining. The competition aspect gets you hooked.

Just think about the amount of money they must make on the voting (35 Million votes a week) in phone charges. I wonder what kind of deal they have with Cingular. Incredible.
