i don't see what the problem with you getting the GK amp is. just turn it down and press the -14dB button.

then get that berg that you seem keen about. my 1001RB-II is my only amp, so by default it is my practice amp and it does just fine. it'll only blow you away if you crank the master volume up.

Im just exploring my options. This would be the last amp i bought for a long time so i want it to be exactly what i want. I know that a lot of people like the GK setup, but ive also heard good things about other amps and cabs. The wt550 appeals to me because it has the tubey warmth that id love and an amazing EQ too. The Berg appeals to me because, well, its a berg.

I just want to make sure I make the best decision for my needs and desires. I also like to be unique. Mixing and matching amps and cabs is really fun. Having a rig that is unique to me would please me more than the cookie cutter rig of the year. (not that thats a bad thing, its just an idea).

All in the quest to find the tone in my head, you know how it is.

Figgy,

I've pretty much decided on a GK 700RB-II and a berg HT210S sound unheard.

The GK due to power (480W@4ohms), reliability, reputation and cost (http://www.rmcaudio.com/) .

The berg because it is 55lbs, 4ohms and handles 500W. That and Travis sez so.

Not sure how soon I'm getting it but if you are still researching when I get it I would be glad to fill you in.

Figgy, I would go Berg or go home. After the GK deal, and trying almost every brand of cab made over the course of a weekend, I went with the Bergs. They are a standout.

The Eden WT550 is also a very sweet head.

I could second this but someone whored it off before I had the chance to try it.

Sheesh!

I would go Thunderfunk and maybe a Schroeder cab(?) I have a TFB420: It sounds very nice through 2 GS112s.

One thing I do have to agree with Paul about is how good the Bergie sounds at low volume. I was absolutely amazed at it's clarity when I played his both with an Ashdown head and with the Genz-Benz head that he has now.

Of course, it looks like I will have to make a trip over soon to try something totally new and funky with the Bergie! ;)

Don't forget that the Eden 550 is compact for the sound & wattage it provides and you can go very modular - various combinations of 112's, 210's, 212's, 410's, etc.

Also it goes down to 2 ohms @ 750 Watts!!

EBS Fafner is the sh*t. By FAR the best bass amp available. Ultra-loud, it even includes two boxes full of earplugs!!!! And the best slap sound if you are into that sort of thing.....

Figgy, I guess you have decided already? If not, I urge you to try the Aguilar GS112. Wew don't have Bergie, Schroeder or Epi here, so those might be nicer, but the Aggies were the best I could find in Sweden. I also like my AG500, mostly because it's got a real great tone.

I woudlnt say Ive decided, I just have an idea, enough to have my mind at peace for a while until i get the funds to purchase an amp. Basicaly what i have now is an idea of what amps i need to try out, somehow. Ill definitely try out any stuff that i can.
