Any reason for the swithc to the bigger fret dots?

The bigger Dots would not keep me from playing a Big Dot AL HH. To me, the small dots
look cleaner.

Im totally down with the Small dot. Big dots dont fit most EBMM models to me, the AL and Reflex work because of the body style, but on a JP or a Silo I think they would look weird.


I think the Ebony board guitars should have a dot delete option, for total blackout metalness.

I also just thought they were on the Silo's, and to be honest I thought it was a nod to Johnny Hiland who has always had big dots on his guitars because of his eye issues. Big, little, I really dont care as long as I dont start seeing the dreaded no fret marker metal necks.

The only guitar I own right now is my Axis, not bad if you only can have one. Anyways, I went to a music store and picked up some Super Strat and the fret markers (even though they were regular size) looked HUGE! Like using one of those phones for old people with the large buttons and text haha

I'm just saying that I have a preference to the small dots, my AL HH has the larger dots and I can deal with them. The dot size didn't stop me from getting the AL HH and love the guitar. But to me it just seemed that the small dots were synonym with Music Man. Another bit of uniqueness like the 4+2 headstock or the truss rod wheel.

I was just curious if it was just me.

Funny issues people have nowadays. It's like big dots will slow you down or prevent you from playing eh? What are you guys a bunch of giraffes, that bend their heads over the whole fretboard to see what fret you're on??? hahaha That's why you got the small side dots no? I just think this is an entertaining and funny thread.

Oh, and I guess Classical Guitars are actually METAL guitars because they dont have any fretboard inlays. I guess you learn something new every day hahahaha.

Back in 1994 or so, I was still a starving college student and couldn't afford a EVH. I wanted one oh-so-badly but couldn't afford it. Staring at the EBMM catalog and looking at the specs really showed how they set themselves apart from the rest of the manufacturers of that time.

The straight string pull headstock design, the carved neck heel, and the small dot inlays and the way the binding melted into the back half of the guitar really set that guitar apart for me. I attempted to build one using a Warmoth VH body and a even cut a headstock to be similar with the 4+2 peg head. But no matter what I did, it would never be an EBMM.

The details are what mattered the most to me and I still feel they are important. I think that's why a lot of us care about the size of the fret markers. The small dot inlays were just one of the many fine details that I love about EBMM guitars that you just can't get on any other.

Older player can afford Music Man but their old age makes them short-sighted ... thus they need larger dot.

At certain age you don't need to actually look at the fretboard.

My post was meant to be light hearted and poking fun at all of us knuckleheads. Believe me, I love the small markers myself, and it is all in the details and amazing craftsmanship. It is all the details on top of the amazing tone and playability that makes me admire my Y2D every time I open the case...even a year after playing it on a daily basis pretty much. But still, I would not be dettered from playing any Ball because it has bigger dots...because I know it's an EBMM.

If you're playin' with large dots, get some - 2 diopters and everything will be OK.

note: at least they put the 12th fret large dots spread apart like in old times....
