I bought a Les Paul, and the only reason I did was that I met Les in Person in 2004. Thought it would be cool to get one after meeting him. It was a beautiful axe, but it killed my back. Had to let it go....

you know, I never hear anyone say anything bad about EBMM, ever. even in my general life as a guitarist and meeting players all the time, everyone is full of praise. yet i constantly hear bagging of Fender and Gibson, even by non-EBMM players.

Speaking as an employee, you probably don't hear a lot of griping about EBMM from our side because BP is a pretty dang fair boss, who takes care of his employees. They expect results but I've never felt someone was looking over my shoulder and even when I mess up I end up being harsher on myself than the boss is on me. If you add that to the fact that I'm sitting here doing my best Jesus impression, stroking my beard and wearing a heavy metal band t-shirt...then yeah I can't really find a reason to bitch.

That isn't even the product/customer support side.

Keep going with the stories, it makes me glad to know where I could have ended up. I hear they wear ties at F3nd3r.

I thought that the only reason Gibson was where it was today was thanks to one top hat wearing guitarist from the 80's. Remember when you could buy Les Paul's for next to nothing in any pawn shop becasue nobody wanted them?

Then along comes Slash, makes them "cool" again and away we go, crazy prices for a "brand name".

The funny thing his is wasn't even a Gibson it was a copy. :p

Yeah, the Appetite guitar was built by Chris Derrig. (RIP) great builder. Plus Max and Keebler, and I actually know of a few other guys building high quality 'clones' don't be surprised if your favorite artist isn't playing a real Lester or Stratoblaster on stage...

But Luke, Morse, JP and AL use real Balls...:D

One more reason to dislike Gibbo - Trace Elliot. They bought Trace Elliot because of the Velocette being better than their Goldtone, then basically stopped making guitar amps. Still do acoustic, still do bass but dropped the electric guitar range. What's with that!!!

I love my velocette, I just can't get a bad sound out of it, and believe me I can pretty well make anything sound bad.

BTW add another vote for a MAC user.

I can't say I like Gibson's business practices very much. Some mentioned Trace but they also did the same thing to Steinberger. But once you get past the branding silliness and poor customer service the truth is that nothing sounds like a Les Paul plugged into a Marshall half stack. At the end of the day I play and buy Les Pauls because of the feel and tone, not because the CEO is a really nice guy. I would say the same thing about EBMM guitars although great customer service, the highest standards of QC and the CEO being a great guy are all nice bonuses :). But none of that would matter to me if their guitars felt or sounded like crap.

Gibson bought Trace to strengthen their amplifier range and such aquisitions are common in the corporate world. Originally, both Trace Elliott and Gibson amplifiers were manufactured at the Trace plant in the UK. It was during this period they reintroduced the Goldtone which was developed using the manufacturing and design expertise of Trace. Basically what they did was rebranded the "Trace" electric guitar amps as Gibson but kept the acoustic and bass amps under the Trace label. This was a smart move because Trace was recognized as a premier maker of bass and acoustic amps but had weak market recognition in the electric amp field. Gibson obviously felt that they would do better by linking the electric amps to the Gibson heritage of vintage amps from the 50s.

The manufacture of Gibson amps was eventually moved back to the US. Today Gibson offers several electric guitar amps under the Gibson brand. I believe that Trace is now distributed by Peavey but exists as a separate company once more.

+1 code, - I don't mean to go off thread here - I just want to focus breifly on an example of why I'll only be buying EBMM's from now on....

As an owner of several g!bsons and F3nd3rs - and also soon to be 2 EBmm's - I consider myself unbiassed in my opinion of the following.....

I recently had to replace the nuts on 3 of my guitars, - 1 was my axis - one was my LP custom and the other my USA str@t.

On all 3 i got a replacement nut without issue, but it's the little extra effort I got from EBMM that makes me post this,

The Lp nut came in the shrink wrap packet - I like it - and was precut and all I had to do was glue it - yeah, not bad.

The Str@t nut came in a freezer style back and was pre slotted, I had to sand it to fit, fair enought everyone is different and that allows for choice...

The EBMM nut showed up....... Not just the nut, the nut, the retainer, the screws, the blocks, the allan keys the shims EVERYTHING
All 3 companies did the same thing, but only one went that bit further to accomidate me the customer.

I work in IT service delivery, I know the value of customer service, and beleive me if I wasn't happy I'd be posting it here!

I'm not over praising here, and I'm not posting this to bad mouth any other company they both did what I asked, but EBMM just went that bit further,

Keep up the good work guys, you'll get all my business from now on.

Smellybum.
