M$= MicroShaft... with Gill Bates.... he boassts his products with shameless pluggs... I think the funniest thing on the planet is when he was doing a presentation on the stability of WINXP and he got the dreaded Blue Screen of Death... it was funny.

If you pay attention the forum you'd all know that BP is a Mac Guy.... Any plans on incorperating an Ipod into the body of a guitar to practice along with?

Welcome Blue!!!

it is funny that you bring up Gibson, because i live 20 miles from the old plant in Kalamazoo, MI. I never really heard any bad things about that location, but those were the good ol days!:D

What did the lady do (or not do) to get herself fired?

Well, what I slowly started to learn was that ALS (average life-span) in the gibby corporate office was 90 days.

And by some strange cosmic coincedence ...health and other benefits kicked in at 90 days.

So that first 90 days was really a probation period.

I remember a well-known visitor coming through the office with a big smile on his face a looking around and casually remarking "Everytime I come here, everyone is new".

Didn't mean much to me then..... sure as heck did later.

Why (not when) was she fired?

Ah... I'm sure the reason that was cited was gibby didn't think she did her job well, so after 90 days... she was canned. What does that really mean....There were very, very high standards.....and most people spent their 90 days trying to figure out what those standards are. Some did it, most didn't... or didn't want to.

The bottom line, I really don't know. I'm just telling you what I saw and my take on it.

BP's anti MS anything because so many years ago, his office was slapped with a HUGE fine (settlement) for having unregistered copies of MS software.
BP paid the fine instead of a lengthy battle, but was then determined to make the offie 100% MS free, which he has done successfully.

I understand the whole copyright-piracy thing but I think it's taken a little TOO far in my opinion! Kudos to BP for the successful extermination!

High standards = bad?

Sorry to spoil the direction of this thread, but if you're gonna bash, you need facts. Actually, the reason you think she got fired ("think"...not "know"), is actually a good reason to fire someone during a probationary period.

Granted, the lawsuit with PRS was ridiculous, but bashing a company for having very, very high standards? Maybe that's why some of their instruments are the most sought after in history, have books written about them, and have gone up in value at an astronomical rate.

Is Jimmy Page a "fool"?
Duane Allman?
Dickie Betts?
Peter Green?
Gary Moore?
Billy Gibbons?
Peter Frampton?
B.B King?
Zakk Wylde?
Robert Johnson?
Les Paul?

Here are a few facts:

Sorry....

Hey BlueBoss,

Welcome to the forums. I didn't get any bad vibes from your post, either. I actually love reading and hearing about these inside stories about these companies

I definately buy a guitar based on how it sounds, how it feels and how it plays. But in the back of my mind I do take into consideration how the company is run and how it treats it's customers. I might be crazy but that is sometimes a deal breaker for me. I work hard for my money, and I want to make sure it's going to the right place. That's why I feel I've found a home at EBMM. Company is great....great customer service......and the instruments are great.

Gibson, obviously, don't have very high standards when it comes to the quality control of there instruments. It's hit and miss at the best of times. Les Pauls that I have seen have had sloppy inlay work, and poor fret work. I think the opinions being expressed relate to how the company has been run over the past 20 or so years. I think it's the marketing machine that makes these instruments so popular. I almost get the feeling that some people get brainwashed into thinking if you're going to spend your hard earn money on a killer instrument, it has to be a Gibson or Fender. That's not the case. Don't get me wrong, the les paul is a nice chunk of mahogany, and has great tone, but there are much better values for your money out there. Especially, when us hosers up here in Canada have to pay about $2500.00 on a les paul standard.

The instruments that are sought after and have books written about them, are from Gibson's past. Things were much different then. Fifty years from now, I highly doubt Gibsons made in the 1990's and 2000's are going to be highly sought after.

I'd take a 59 Les Paul in a millesecond. And Robert Johnson could have played a piece of plywood and it would be a highly sought after guitar. It's because Robert Johnson played and owned it, not so much cause it was a Gibson.

This is so true....Luke, JP, Steve Morse, Albert lee, et al could go to Joe Schmoes Music Emporium, and get a guitar off the shelf and it would be the same axe that they get from the factory, right down to the string gauge they use. Nobody else does this.

Gibson survives today because of what it did before. They haven't had a new idea since Jesus was a corporal, and the present-day execution of their old ideas is usually sub-par.

Also, their general attitude sucks. They're almost too cool to even hang around with themselves, much less actual dealers and/or customers.

I have played and owned some fine Gibson instruments (none of them, however, were basses). A good Les Paul is a thing of beauty. Pity they so seldom make one anymore.

And what Jon said is so completely illustrative of WHY we're all here on this forum, playing these instruments. Tony Levin plays the same SR5 that I do, more or less. I could pick his up and it wouldn't be appreciably better than mine, and vice versa.

The Music Man instruments don't have to be tweaked or customized or cost 2 thousand dollars more for someone like Steve Lukather to play 'em.

There! Gibson makes me mad! But I'm all done now.
