A few of my favorites, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Grand Funk Railroad are sort of yester-year-ish. They were somewhat popular and halfway decent musicians too.

I'm all about the old bands...

I got ripped rotten at school for it but no modern music does it for me!

Blue Murder.... ye John Sykes some good songs there! Live in Tokyo album 'screaming blue murder' is really good also. I've always had a thing for a Sykes Les Paul have to shamefully admit.

Don't forget Vito Bratta with White Lion... solos were amazing! as were some of the rhythm work. Possibly the only one of Ed influenced 'hair metal' breed that actually took on board what he was doing. Nuno also in later years with the funk hair metal type thing that you all know.

I've got loads and loads of old albums ofbands that most people have either forgot about or just didnt know existed. Strangeways for example, they began not too far from where I live. Most of it is very Journey inspired but really good.

I went to see King's X last time. Probably the 15th time I've seen them. I still love seeing Ty play.

Me too. I adore that band. I spent a good chunk of my awkward adolescence with King's X bumping in my headphones. I've seen them about that many times.

Poison's concert in Perth was the most ridiculously loud concert I've ever been to.
Had to lip read to even know what songs were playing.
My ears still ring from it nearly 20 years later- seriously.

Listened to a lot of Faith No More.
GN'R's Appetite for Destruction was a major part of my early teens.

So was Dokken / George Lynch, which brings me to your listing of Faster Pussycat.
I never listened to their old stuff, but they opened for Lynch Mob on Dec 8th here in Perth.
Jeezuz, they're f*&ked up - singer looked like the old, fat & dead lovechild of Marylin Manson and Amy Winehouse- pretty cool performance though - hardcore rockers.

Lynch Mob were terrible - great vocalist, but GL has had it - I swear he hears something completely different to what's he's actually playing.
Interestingly enough, there wasn't a Randall in sight - he was playing through a Soldano and a beat-up old Marshall SL100 (just over a year ago he was here to market the GL sig Randall)

Saxon, Accept, ... great bands ... sometimes ....
I remember also a small band I have seen in 1984. The were doing the first part of the Venom concert (do you remember Venom ???). What was their name .... Oh I remember : Metallica

I opened up for Accept back when I was 19 or so, well my band did! I remember wondering where Udo was. They had some other singer at the time. They unloaded two semis full of gear to play at a small nightclub. I remember playing through their PA system. Everything sounded great!

And Metallica... I turned a lot of people on to them when Ride the Lightning came out. But let's just say that I am an avid non fan now for various reasons musical and otherwise.

My first concert ever was Judas Priest. Talk about a LOUD show!

Not till much later did I get into Hendrix & SRV.

Well, I definately agree with the other guys listing Hendrix, Sabbath, AC/DC, Priest, etc, etc. Just thought I'd add my classic 80's and 90's hair and glam metal/rock.

I totally understand about the loudness of those concerts. I saw tesla here about 1992 and it was seriously the loudest concert I've ever been to. Can't believe I didn't suffer any damage that night. I've learned my lesson though, I always wear ear protection now. Doesn't matter what the concert is.

Very good call with Faith No More........Great band. And GNR, too. I know there have been many great first albums by different bands, but IMO Appetite is one of the best debut albums from any band.

I LMAO with your Faster Pussycat comment. Taime Downe IS now a cross between Manson and Amy Winehouse. They've definately gone for the Goth/Marilyn Manson look.

Very interesting about Lynch. So there didn't seem to be any Lynch Box heads on stage? Wonder if he's leaving Randall?

On the subject of Saxon one of the original guitarists Graham Oliver lives local to me and is a good freind.He's a great guy always up for a jam wth the local bands.

Diamonds and Rust is a song composed by Joan Baez.
It's a great song.
On the live album Unleashed in the East (1979 I believe) you have a great heavy metal version. Now Judas plays it on acoustic. I like both version ... but I prefer the heavy metal one !
My first concert was Motorhead (in 1983 ...) and I was 12 years old. It explains a lot of thing on my life ...

I remember them all, but Badlands was and is, one of my all-time favorites. Ray Gillen was one of the best singers of all time IMNSHO. Funny Blue Murder is on there too, as Ray was originally the singer in that band until Sykes decided to sing for himself; shortly after losing the gig he got together with Jake and started Badlands.

Good stuff.

Man I have just hooked up my ipod with a load of old school bands and I am loving the rock experience. CHeck these out .....
