i email with the seller today and he told me, that he was a bit angry, because of the overbidding-race and cancelling at the end.

I had a similar experience…

A few weeks ago I was bidding on a Rickenbacker and the bidding went slightly crazy. Just before the day the auction was gonna end, eBay told me the seller canceled my bid. I was like fine if you don’t like me whatever. However, the seller emailed me the next day wondering the reason of my (& others‘) bid retraction. I was like wtf so I report all that to eBay. Turned out neither of us did anything, the seller’s auction/account was hacked according to eBay.

So, If both the seller & bidders didn’t cancel those bids, it’s very possible that someone is screwing with the auction/accounts. I’d say don’t just get mad, you may wanna change your passwordS (eBay & whatever you have linked to it) and monitor you cc/Paypal for a while.

I'm just tired of the whole EVH phenomenon with gear. These things are ridiculously over priced. As now are used 5150s. And Wolfgangs. I'm glad I sold both of mine years ago (for only a grand apiece - beautiful amber and blue quilts.)

100% agree. i dont really get the EVH's, there are some cool colours, but the Axis surely is a better guitar. plus i'd want to support the EBMM company by buying mostly new guitars. i'd only ever get a EVH if it was fairly cheap, but its way down on my list. I would only get one if i needed it, which i dont. $5000US? I dont think so.

but i dont need the 8 silo specials on my wanted list in different colours either! :p

As a player, i honestly prefer the axis over the EVH ! The Axis does own most of its heritage to the EVH though.

I think its cool that we can be so honest about this here. The EVH is for collectors and speculators, the AXIS is for players ... serious players (who don't want nobody else's name on the guitar) !

Maybe that's my jealous subconscience speaking, not being able to afford an EVH.

guys the evh is a collectors item and a great guitar. the axis shares the saem neck just a tad wider and the same pickups so i dont get the axis plays better thing. being a evh fan and a ebmm fan i dont get the those slamming the guitar. only so many were made in that color so yes they are gonna go for a big price. i buy axis guitars cause i cant afford to buy alot of evh's and the reason i buy them is cause they are the evh's with some minor changes. do you think the axis would have done as good with a different neck and pickups cause that is where you would be without the evh. i am not defending ed here i am defending the guitar itself. its wonderful along with the axis.

Fair enough! I have an Axis and I'm very happy with that although I do understand the interest in pieces like this.

Despite the mostly negative vibes on here (which I fully understand), given the chance I would love to have bought this one..

..just to own that little bit of history but not for the money they wanted! :D

I can appreciate the fact that fans / collectors will want to own a piece of history.

I have a friend who is putting back together a smashed Gib5on SG owned by Pete Townshend (full provenance with Guitar), and I'm always pestering him to let me touch it and smell (not lick) the opened case!!!

I just couldn't part with the kind of money it would go for.
OK, to some lucky people, that level of money is small change - me I have no chance!!

Personally - I'd rather play my AL - it plays sooooo much better than my 30"s archtop.

PS
I looked at the link for the EVH guitar but there was no mention of price - just how much is this thing going for ?

They told me that they were looking for about £6k. Way above the top bid it got on ebay!

Kids I was involved in the design of both guitars and they are great. If you prefer the Axis then you see what I wanted to do in the first place. If you prefer the EVH then you prefer the collaboration between Dudley EVH and me.

Lets look at this modern collectable market. I am really proud that I had a hand in something that has appreciated rather than ended up iin the bargin bin. The EVH is one of the only collectable guitars to come out in twenty years. I take it as a compliment.

Remember it is a free market based on supply and demand. The prices are validated buy the fact that people are still buying them at these inflated prices

If paying a premium for a really limited supply isnt your thing, we are happy to make you a new guitar!

I think the changes incorporated into the Axis make it more comfortable to play, at least they do for me. See, when I had my EVHs, I always wound up catching the high E on the bottom of the neck. The tiny change made a big differecne for me - problem gone. As a player who plays a lot of the time sitting, I also found the contour more comfortable over a long playing period - again - for me. I also prefer the location of the toggle - less arm movement required to change positions - more effecient - for me. Yes, the EVHs are great guitars, I just find the Axis better designed overall.

that's a little harsh!

Nothing presonal Brent - I just have a thing against guitars sitting in a case and never being played. The Stradivarius violins are all currently in use because they have amazing tone. I think the EVHs should be played too. It irks me (and I know its just a personal quirk of mine) when I see a 15 year old guitar and its in mint condition. I somehow feel the guitar got cheated.
