Steve,
I agree the finishes themselves are very nice. I'm saying the colors they have availabale are really lame right now (the Petrucci Models)except maybe the Radience Red and Desert Gold. The color choices are the only thing that has prevented me from dropping a bunch of money on some of these. But your right its all a matter of opinion. Black and White guitars sell more. I just thought the Erniball/Musicman company would like to do something a little different besides the same colors every other company puts out. I mean the quality of their guitars is above everybody elses why not the colors? If I am going to spend fifteen hundred dollars or more on a guitar I want it to LOOK better from every other guitar on the market right now. I will say though the pics of the new Steve Morse sig model with the flamed Maple tops are stunning just not my kind of guitar. Do a Petrucci 7 string model like that and I will spend some cash.

I think it would be tough for EBMM to make custom colors just for their line of guitars/basses. There are many colors to choose from and it is a matter of what you like or don't like. Like other colors, some just don't sell well enough for them to keep offering that choice and it is time to move to other colors that may appeal more. I would love a flame/quilt top Pet, but, I don't believe that is gonna happen anytime soon. Sure, we (forumites) would love every color in the book and even some exotic stuff....but we are the minority in the big picture. Hope they put out something for ya.....you are right, they are AWESOME guitars.

Flame/Quilt top Pet. ....now, that would probably make me bust out the CC and finally get one. That'd be damn sweet.

Brett? What do you reccomend that we dont offer? We have many colors that noone offers.......

BP,

I thought you've already tried most things! No complaints here!

Brett,

EBMM has more colour options than anybody as far aas I know!
Too many colour is not realistic. Not to mention people would only be more confused as to what to get! (like me).
If you really want a pink guitar, then just paint it yourself! ;)

I think a bunch of standard colours and every year having one or two limited edition colours is nice. It's good business, it keeps things interesting.
No matter what, there will always be someone who complains. Those are usually the people you don't want as a customer anyways.

I've noticed an increase in jabs therefore forcing me to respond and therefore adding to my post count! I'm starting to wonder about this! Hmmm. :) ;)

speaking of finishes on a Pet .... Mystic Dream!!! that finish is crazy sweet!!! there's probably no way in hell to photograph the awesomeness of that finish - youd need a video clip :)

and other pimp finishes:
Rolls Burgundy ... sweet!
Medallion gold ... rocks!!!! (got one on order)
Black Cherry Burst ... hot damn!!!
BUttercream ... yummy (i just had to buy one the other day)

... just a few of my favorites :)

check out http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/color_chart/color_chart.html and pick 8 favorites. disclaimer: many of the EBMM finishes are of the "photos dont do it justice" variety.

Big Poppa,
I'm sorry if I came across as complaining about the finishes. I'm just giving my honest opinion but this is the reason I haven't dropped any cash on one of your Petrucci guitars. I do love your guitars (I have a White Sparkle fully loaded JP6)but when I buy a guitar especially one that is over 1500 bucks I want it to look better and different than every other guitar out there and I am sorry but the colors you guys are doing on the Petrucci models (except for Desert Gold and Radience Red maybe Teal Pearl)just look like color options every other company is doing right now. Koogs says the Mystic Dream finish is cool. My honest opnion is it looks like something from the 80's. Have you seen the finish on some of those new Chevy SSR's?It looks just like the Mystic Dream color. Well they had that color changing finish on their Camaro's too in the early nineties. For my suggestion,I will have to second what Blackspy wrote if you guys did flamed maple tops on the Petrucci models I would drop some cash. How about a vintage burst paint job to use as an example like on the Les Pauls. They have at least five or six different burst finishes honey, cherry, rootbeer, tobacco ect ect. You guys have one Pearl Redburst wich I don't care for now because its the main color they offer at Guitar Center and everybody I have ever seen around here that has had a Petrucci model has it.

I just want to apologize to everybody in the forum especially Big Poppa if I offended anybody with my comments about the color choices. That was not my intention. I am one person and not the majority. I was brought up to say whats on your mind and thats what I am doing. I am being totally honest here for my reasons for not purchasing another EBMM guitar.Thought Big Poppa being the CEO and all would appreciate to hear comments on his products from people that use them and buy them.

Brett, Im going to comment on this as a dealer.

One of the reasons you see Pearl Redburst on so many JP models is that is one of his signature colors, and has no upcharge, so people want it. They say "hey that color is only available on the JP! The Mystic Dream is also only available on the JP, but comes with a $400 bump to the price which I don't want to pay - I want JPs guitar, order me a Pearl Redburst." I don't have my order list in front of me, but I believe that about 60% of all JPs I order are Pearl Redburst.

Now, guess what's in EB's head time!
The reason the Pearl Redburst is offered vs other bursts is because it is an opaque burst and the wood grain doesn't show through it. I don't know if EB doesn't offer other solid bursts so that way JPs color is more "Stand alone" or if there is not as much demand for other color bursts.

(plus you have to shoot 2 colors of paint, which means 2 guns, and twice as likely for someone to mess it up in the booth, etc)

Just my guesses, but I can see where you are coming from. I'm sure EB will be coming out with some paint goodies in the near future, but they just added dual pickups as options on all their basses, and the rosewood option on the axis, probably pushing 70,000 different available models you can purchase now.

I understand we all have our wish lists.... but I believe the JP is Music Man's best selling guitar. So there must be some desirable colors available for the JP. I personally own a Pearl Redburst JP6, and I've never seen another finish like it from another manufacturer. Even the OLP version of the same finish isn't nearly as nice and is no comparison.

In fact, I have often found myself thinking that EBMM offers a whole lot of 'off the beaten path' colors and not too many 'normal' ones. But that's just my two cents and I'm perfectly happy to play a Petrucci of any color. :)

Not to beat this to death, but please humour me. It is really important to me.
This is my last post regarding this colour!

I came across this on eBay and I was guessing that this is more of what the Carbon Blue Pearl looks like when there's not too much light shining on it.
I do understand the different hues, which I think are beautiful. I just want to get a handle on the base colour.

As a former Carbon Blue Pearl owner, that last set of pics looks purdy good.

Compare those to my Bongo photos - very close.
