I'm smiling too and I'll tell you why.

When I changed the buttons on the MG to Schallers I tried to use the extra long stock screws that were on it. Finally got 'em in but not without some problems with the screw fitting through the Schaller button, and I'm still not satisfied with the way it turned out. Bottom button always coming loose. Another reason I don't want to mess with the new Bongo.

But for some actual EBMM straplocks I'd do it. :D

Hey Rockin Ray,

I too have that same issue with Schallers. I have tried all and have settled on the Schallers, but I always end up tightening after a while. I use a little low torque lock tight on the strap nuts to keep them from moving. The basses, I don't want to risk damaging the finish so I just check them after a couple of shows.

EB strap locks where I can use the original long screws! Awesome idea! Can't wait to see them.

I have always put my Schallers on with the screws that come from EB - ? ? ? ? ? ?
Never a problem , and the threads naturally fit perfectly . . . .

Like Tim, I always use the screws from the original strap buttons to install my Schaller strap lock buttons. Never had a problem. Just need to check them from time to time to make sure they're tight on the strap and the bass.

Glad the SR made it through the fall without too much damage Jack. Looks like you will be among the first ordering EB straplocks. :)

We know EBMMs are tough... for those who remember, I posted back in May about my irate drummer friend who punted my bass (in gigbag) across the floor after he accidentally tripped over it while not looking where he was going. If they can make it through that, they can make it through anything.

I'd be punting him (without gigbag) too. Sheesh!

Jack - yooza lucky boy.....:)

The sound of a falling bass/guitar is second only to the sound of your child falling down the stairs - stomach through the floor! Glad she's OK, Jack

Can't wait to see the straplocks, BP - I've had a couple of close calls and have been thinking about them.

ya better send it to me so i can make sure it's ok though.......just in case.......
Last night after the last tune, I hopped down to talk to the people at our table and since it was right there, kept my bass strapped on. I slung it around behind my back, something I've done about a billion times before, and the straplock by the bridge just let go. I never had a chance.

The brand new 30th Anniversary Stingray bounced off the hardwood floor. What a horrible noise that is.

I inspected it quite thoroughly this morning and I can't find any damage. Maybe a little tiny thingy by that bottom strap button, but it doesn't really look like much at all. The pickguard seems to have been scratched, but hey, it's a pickguard. Other than that - nothing.

Built like a tank. Unbelievable. What tough instruments! Photos in a bit.

It wasn't really the insertion of the screw it was the extraction from the Schaller button. Somehow it gets cross threaded and good luck getting it out.

Needless to say I'll be waiting for the EBMM straplocks along with you.

Jack will always remember where the first ding on the 30th came from, that's for sure.

Here, too.

I've been using Dunlops for a long time and this was the first time I've ever had one come loose (and it's an old button on the bass, not sure how long I've had it but it's the old style so it's been around here a long time), but I'm ready to switch when you're ready to get 'em out, Biff.

Jack...

I can't help but be reminded of how thoroughly I was thrashed last year (in the immortal, nay, undead bent knob thread) for doubting those who claimed to have NEVER EVER EVER dropped a bass despite many years of ownership.

S**t happens, to everyone, period, and I refuse to be convinced otherwise.

I'm VERY glad your precious 30th survived. I know the feeling...my Bongo fell over while SECURELY perched on a Hercules locking stand...the whole blasted thing keeled over and the bass landed on its face. I was ten feet away at the time (outdoor gig, uneven ground).

FWIW: I use Dunlop straploks. I found out, the hard way (during a gig, no less), that it is possible to stick the strap in without the lock engaging fully. Once engaged, they're bulletproof...but they're not immune to mishap.

Now I give it a tug every time to make sure. I hope you develop the same habit!

I do make it a habit to exert downward pressure every time I change basses, just to test the strap.

But hey, I could have forgotten.

I certainly won't bitch about Dunlops, even with this event. They've been good to me for a very long time.

I WILL, however, be doing some private testing of the connection between that strap and that bass!
