the Jam friday night is just the forumites and is at the slo country club floowoing dinner the big show with just the artists is saturday night at the madonna inn events center.

Hey BP,

Okay, so the jam is after dinner.......and yes, I do know it's just the forumites on Friday.... :) I know that they are 2 separate events.

My question was, if it's after dinner, how long do the forumites have to play? The original list of events has everyone going back to the hotel at 9:00, but if there is going to be the KNuckleheads, then I guess we have the place longer, or is it somewhere else?

sorry to be nitpicky on details. :D

And, by the way, thank you once again for doing all this.

Wouldn't mind seeing some EB folks Friday night.
Seems we all owe THEM a huge round of applause.
And what an honor it would be to entertain them and ruin their hearing
:D

What's that, The Temple of Syrinx?

not quite my cup of tea - too much falsetto, you'd have to ask Nick. Rumors are that he registered on here last night

Haven't you learned that no good comes of spreading rumors? :D
I'll give Syrinx a shot tomorrow and see if I can hit it. That would be awful if I had to break down and practice...

Well, I sing better than I play so I'll help you out there....

Excellent! No sense in me being the only one blowing out their voice for the good of the EB folks.

cool dude ... just pick a song. i dont think i know any of 'em all the way thru so i have no real preference. also you know Take Warning By OPIV? Its ska, sounds great and is easy .... here's all the notes: B, D#, C# (some variation of those for intro, verse and chorus riffs - just mess around and youll find it. the breakdown thing is some guitar doodle in E and a few bends)

anywho ... how u been man?

I hear you on that, I live in CT. Won't be something I do every weekend, but this is a special opportunity so I'm hopping on a plane for the big funhouse tour

Mike, are you on the 12:50 flight into SLO from Phoenix, too?

Hey Pete - I thought I'd move the conversation over here so we don't muck up Tommy's thread. I forgot too.

I'm actually not flying into SLO. My wife and I are going to do some sightseeing around the LA area after SLO, so we're flying into LA. I'll be driving up to SLO Thursday night and we'll be meeting everyone at the Firestone around noon...

Hey - what ever happened with Keith's jam at the Sands? Is it off now since everyone is playing on Friday night at the country club?

Pete,

Any Talas fans here? I used to play a lot of their stuff.

Wow, I thought I was the only person in the world who knew about Talas (outside of Buffalo NY). I attended University at Buffalo back in 1981 and we kept hearing about this local band Talas. One night they played in the pub on campus, so of course we went. I just remember picking my jaw off the floor and saying to myself..who the hell is this guy on Bass??!! He's on friggin' fire. He's EVH on the bass, he's gonna be famous. Sure 'nuff. Billy Sheehan....he was a raging bull in his younger years with Talas.

Tunes I remember:
High Speed On Ice
Inner Mounting Flame
Shy Boy (no, David Lee Roth did not write it)
and Billy's bass solo track "NV43345", which sorta looks like "ShEEhAN" if you look at it upside down....sorta.

Related story......Steve Morse performed in a classical guitar concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC one night right after the album "Stand Up" came out. Went to go see that show, then later that night in a small club back on L.I. went to see Talas, up close. That was a memorable musical night.

Yeah, baby. Me, Jon, NoRm and the famous drummer! I figure one song is about enough for me - I just wanna observe the train wreck and see if Luke will give me a wedgie.

ALRIGHT!

NOW WE GOTS SOME FUN!

Me, Dudley, Jon, NoRm and the famous drummer!

See, boys? You call out an old tune, give 'em a key, offer to sing the damned thing and you got yourself a JAM.

I mean, you guys planning on playing "Dancing Madly Backwards" by Captain Beyond or some Rush Tribute thing are out of your minds. (Eh, in my ever so humble opinion.)

Dudley, what about Free Bird?

Okay, not Free Bird, I just wanted to say it.

Adwex,

I have been a Talas fan since around 1983. They used to come down to Pittsburgh and play the bars down here a little bit, too. Those were the days!

In high school my band played:

Sink Your Teeth Into That
Never See Me Cry
Lone Rock
Hit and Run

You're right, Sheehan named his bass solo tracks so they could be read upside down. (Not that this was his motive, just my explanation.)

For example, the one you mentioned was NV43345 which pseudo-spells "Sheehan".. then he did 7718 (3A17) on their live album, which = "(Live) Bill"
.

I'd love to hear a mixed-and-matched Talas with Mitch Perry on guitar, Billy on bass, Paul Varga on vocals, and Mark Miller on drums. That would be unstoppable.
