My G.A.S tells me that by the end of the year I should have these:

Seriously?? That Avalon is big $$$ - I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it if you ever get one.

Yes!! Actually I plan to own it by the end of this October. Quite a few months ago, Psychicpet will remember, I found a killer deal on a U5. But the guy over there insisted that I should try the M5 as well(more than twice the price). The 2022 is like 2 M5s on testosterone(much more powerful and more features). Then I thought that if I wanted the M5 balanced, plus the mic card plus the rackmounting kit, I'd reach the price of the AD2022. So the 2022 is better value. Also the stereo version is more desirable because I'm planning on opening a studio in Greece next year. This is the reason why I have squeezed my bass budget.

or an EBS Fafner with 12' cabs

Go for the Fafner definately!! I'm selling a 6 string bass at the moment and a Warwick Sweet 15 at the moment in Greece, so when I get the money, next stop The Bass Gallery for a brand new Fafner!
