This concept confuses me...

it will be bundled with an iphone and a subscription where eb earns revenue from the calls you make
on the serious side: any retrofit kits for a hh bongo (or any bass for that matter) down the line???
from a business point of view i guess it probably wont be, but it would be nice to know

The techie in me applauds this innovative design approach. I think it is a very cool idea and thank Big Poppa for having the guts to show us this before the design is ready for "prime time". In the prototyping stage of instrument design alone I could see this "game changer" option as a big deal.
However, I'm still trying to come to terms with the eq control, pickup height and mag/piezo mixing on the Bongo. For my needs, this "game changer" would likely prove overkill as I'd spend more time fiddling with knobs than making music. With the Bongo's impressive tone controls, I find I'm dangerously close to that point now.
I'm not trying to put this idea down or start a flame war, I just want to express an alternate view (honestly, I was about not to send this reply as I sense the semi-deity status BP has on these forums as well as my own respect for him - I had to hush the "don't dissent" voice in my head).
Choice can be good, those of us who want a single pickup bass have one - those of us who want 56 computer programmable settings will have one too.
My experience with multi effect units has proven to me that I'm a two or three tone set-it-and-forget-it musician. I've sold all the multieffect units as you might have guessed

I dabble with two pup EBMMs but when I feel the need to roar, the lever or the blend goes to the big bridge 'bucker (BBB) so I guess I am from the KISS side of the EBMM house also.
But now that EB showed their Gamechanger hand, I am thinking that maybe this is what I need to once in awhile leave the comfort of the BBB.

I for one like the preset idea. I spend a lot of time learning how the controls work and tweak to get that 'Tone' I am looking for. Then I wipe the bass down after playing (every time) and move a knob!!! Yikes, got to kind of re-tweak the next time I pick up that bass. I would be nice to pop in 'That Tone' on demand and then 'This Tone' as needed. Not for everyone, but I like the concept.

I'm reminded of when the Bongo was released. People jumping up and down, having seizures, blah blah blah, because it didn't look like a Stingray! It didn't look like a Sterling!
And I said, "No problem, they're still going to make Stingrays and Sterlings and no one's coming over to force you to buy a Bongo."
Personally, I'm probably in your camp. I don't even OWN an effects pedal. I feel girly when I use my TUNER. (Not really - I need that sucker.) I'm probably not the target market for the GameChanger. And that's okay. I certainly can see that there IS a market for it.

Well. I'm in this camp too...
Having a bigger variety of sounds available, doesn't mean that u have to switch sounds every song.
I for example love the serial mode on my single Humbucker Stingray5. I could live with that one hardwired actually....
But its a setting that a 4string Stingray doesn't offer. Or any HS or HH Stingray for that matter. I like that sound so much that it kept me from buing a Stingray5 HS.
Technically it wouldn't be a big deal....
I assume it was left out in order not to overload the cockpit on those basses. 3 or 4 coils simply offer heaps of possible wirings. So much that it would confuse most people.
The GameChanger would make sounds available that u haven't heard from those basses yet. (As I understand it!)
If u chose to use them or not is still up to the player.

I understand the need for IP, but lawyers have killed SED due to patent conflicts between companies.
Hopefully this doesn't happen to the 'GameChanger'.

I tend to go either way with basses. Some nights I play a one pickup passive bass (no names please) and set and forget. Other nights, I play the 25th and sculpt a tone for each tune. I don't have a preference, I like the variety of choices. As they say - "sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't". I can see the advantage of having access to all sounds on the bass. as it is, the 25th has 16 different tones. But then there are a few that are missing that I wouldn't mind having - coils 1&4, each coil separately, 4&2, 3&1 - why not?
