LEt me explain since I can now that I am a semi Deity...

Let me pry open narrow minds....lets forget how many choices the gamechanger offers you....Lets look at it as this....."Why shouldnt you get to pick what pickup settings you want instead of Dudley and I.
this has really put this into perspective for me, great job again BP

Perfect point!

(But you and Dudley have been making my choices - and good choices they are - for so long now!)

;)

I agree. I'm pretty sure my choices would suck comparatively since my bass playing knowledge (never mind my complete lack of bass manufacturing knowledge, etc.) is nothing compared to the relative bass eggheads working @ EBMM. :D

I'm all for choice in principle. But choice can be a dangerous thing.

I'm happy to let you pick the settings because (being a semi-deity, after all :D ) when it comes to this stuff you're way smarter than we are. I've been around here long enough to fully grasp the truth of that.

When I was a newb here I had been on a years-long Quest for Tone, like so many of us. I had a bass that I'd replaced all of the important bits on... pickups, electronics, strings, the works... and it was better than it had been, but it still didn't quite do it for me. Some of us just can't leave well enough alone.

Then I tried a Bongo and out of the box it was awesome.

At some point, a guy has to accept the fact that there are people out there who are more knowledgeable and competent than he is, and that he should just shut up and listen to what they have to say. It's not easy, but it's wise.

Didn't you once say something to the effect that if a crappy-sounding setting is possible then it is inevitable that the bass you find hanging on the wall at GC will be set precisely that way?

There you go.

PS: I play my Bongo 5H nearly flat, nearly all the time and I like it that way.

i remember that, but this is for a Musicman bass, how can it sound bad or crappy? i think this is a great adition to the bass industry, congrats at everyone in SLO :)

and thanks for the unending GAS

wow, we're given the keys and some still want the shackles....

This concept is totally out of the park and and insanely creative.

I do very much understand the "set it and forget it" crowd because, much like Ed has said, there are days that I'm very much that and that's fine.

Choice and options are always a good thing. Not only is this thing the Gamechanger, it's the Liberator as well!! :D

Very cool -- what I like is you're using the digital chips for what they do well without taking the signal into the digital realm.

So it's not so much about giving me a complete preset, as it is having a "switch" that gives me a lot more options for pickup and coil switching and combinations, that I then tweak with the EQ.

The presets will be be great (Dudley voices them better than I would) but if I'm feeling creative/tweaky, I can play with them.

I design computer games for education, and 95% of all teachers who use our games say they want to be able to customize all the variables, but ... most never actually do -- because our "presets" are pretty good.

Great work. I want one someday, but I want a 25th Stingray 5 too ;-)

if you dont like your settings you choose hold down the encoder for 20 seconds and it defaults to factory settings. I m sure that people are going to struggle with that one!

LMAO!!! :D

I love the thought of the presets and all the options. Evolution has never been an easy thing. Many that can not adapt fall by the way side. Adapt or be left behind. I used a slide ruler in high school (don't laugh - it never ran out of batteries, had digits fade out or froze up) but now I use a calculator on a PC or a spreadsheet. Things change; jump on and enjoy the ride.

Thank BP and crew.

I'm sure it will come with instructions of some kind. I can imagine there will be a lot of RTFM threads...

Oh, man I'm too old for this sh*t! :p

I'm joking of course! :D

I like simple things, but some times complicated too!

In this case, as a tech freak I support the idea, and looking forward to some presentation to see how it works! :)

You have the green light, as far as I concerned! ;)

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

This is a good one to keep on the radar, though. Maybe we'll see more at NAMM in January?

I read through the entire thread, so fascinated was I, before I realized that it was a resurrection-No matter; i was not here then, and the subject is fascinating still (after all those long...months).

First off, Wow- EBMM does it again, aparently with some other builders, and I hope to see it in some stage myself at this Winter NAMM.

I get it- most of it anyway, and as was succinctly stated" "don't like, default!"
in so many words.

The future at least for MI offerings is BRIGHT- Think of what we've already seen (SMPS, BONGO!, etc.) and it's only going to get brighter and better.

This is a MM forum so I'll skim the details, but among my basses is one, actually a high-end acoustic travel bass, that has been modified by a designer wherein a small effects unit -drum beats etc. is retrofitted, along with a self-contained amplifier/speaker system, all connected by special cables- He (the designer) tells me that his ultimate version WILL entail a self-contained version with a control panel that scrolls like the smart phones, etc.
...You'd have to see it... but nonetheless it's an example of what MUST come-eventually; ready or not. And it is way kewl ...and FUN>.

Best of luck to development at EBMM, and it's ultimate production and introduction to the marketplace. Surely it WILL happen, and surely it WILL be an sonic asset.

Kewl!

Awesome

neat.

so i could get the bridge pickup in series for fatness, and the neck pickup in parallel for depth and then combine them both in parallel... or both in series. no i think parallel would be better...

or the neck in series for super fat and the bridge in single coil for stringiness, and then both together in parallel...

oh, the options! is there a setting that changes the pickup covers to white? :p
