PDN is basically being phased out and BFR will be fulfilling the role of PDN. We should have all the assets we need for announcements by August, I will try to get something to show you guys once the weekend is over.

I know PDN are special finishes that had a small ordering window, and covered most of the lines.

I am less clear on the details of a BFR. Know there have been some special BFR instruments in the past, and seems there are guitar versions like the Luke III and the John Petrucci that seems they may be regular offerings?

Can you explain what the difference is between PDN and BFR?

PDN's were limited run, small ordering window. I believe BFR's are just made whenever.

PDN instruments were only available to order by dealers who are part of the "Premier Dealer Network" and the pieces were either limited by quantity or by the length of the order window.

BFR instruments have in the past been available to any/all dealers, although there may have been additional or special requirements (e.g. must be present & order at the NAMM Show, only offered for one day during the third full moon in the 13th month, etc). Some pieces may be limited by quantity or length of the ordering window.

Would you also say that the PDN runs are usually a single finish & features available thru most models (aka Starry Night...), whereas the BFR was a special, upgraded version of individual models = different BFR models don't share the same finish?

Previous years, the Ball Family Reserve offerings have had different/exotic body & top woods, changes to the tone block, special colors, and so on.

Not necessarily. Some of the first PDN runs were a limited quantity of specific models and not available across the whole line. The Luke 2 model was offered in true gold w/ all-rosewood neck & DiMarzio pickups, followed by a Sabre bass offered in Sledge, w/ certificate of authenticity signed by Tony Levin.

To make it easier to understand, PDN or BFR could simply be any package that EBMM wants to issue, on whatever instrument(s) they want to include, in whatever quantities they want to offer as part of that package.

So different names for the same thing? Just whether it was limited to specific dealers or all dealers?

I do have to say, the PDNs being discontinued makes me a little sad. I look forward to those like crazy. And was waiting for a dark purple sparkle run (like my custom AL). (And I'm still trying to find a Cardinal Red Sparkle LIII HH). I also miss the annual LE guitars that we had for a few years.

But I bet EBMM is going to come out with something equally cool!

I've got to ask you about "Jeff's Guitar Gallery" in you signature block. What is it?

Thanks,

...one of the...?

Has anybody else such an impressive collection? Someone who is not endorsed and whose last name isn't Ball, of course.

Yet, Jeff isn't really a "regular" customer either!

Yeah, I'd put a pic of the guitars in The Morseum I'm my siggy, but my measly 40ish would pale in comparison...
