Really been enjoying this thread.

I became a fan of spalted tops after discovering the page Fender put up for their artisan guitars. I feel like it's a way of getting that reliced look without putting a brand new guitar to a belt sander.

Looking forward to some pics of the finished product!

That top is gorgeous. Although, I would go with a nice clear coat. And black binding. :D

Haha thanks guys. Labor of love, gotta do it right and that takes some time. I have to recess the tremolo a bit, still thinking about making it floating or not for the time being.

And maybe with a hint of blue stain around the edges? :)

Kevin

Not a chance hahaha

edit:

you guys should be thankful! Im actually gonna finish this one! hahaha

Seems like you're in the majority. I'm the oddball. Good luck. Whatever you decide, it's gonna look great.

The one color I am seriously debating on is red to match my old EVH, love that color and with the chrome and white pickups it would be super sharp I think.

OK boys, I thought about it... and I did it. I recessed the floyd. this puppy can now pull up.

Basically, I made a template out of 1" birch plywood, and checked, rechecked, checked some more, then did a practice route, then checked again. Then I clamped down the template and went to town. I literally don't think it would be possible to get a tighter fit without CNC. The diameter of the bit and all that jazz (I don't have small follower bits, nor would I trust them).

Looks kinda strange without posts in it, but once I get the cavity painted black and then add the posts, it'll be right as rain :)
