Wasn't sure if you wanted the burst in there or not…
Personally, I think spalted should be natural as Sweat suggests but it's your guitar, therefor your playground.

Guess the only option is to get a few more right? ;)

That purple and red are both seriously cool. The reason why Im entertaining a stain is due to the extreme figure in the flame. The pics Im giving just aren't conveying the flame in it. That said, I will be pondering things before I make any decisions. Took me a few days to settle on floating the trem, gonna have to spend some time thinking about colors. I do appreciate the photoshopping, sincerely. Very nice for my visualization of the guitar.

Yup, tough choices indeed!
BTW, that's not photoshop. I actually built exact replicas and painted them super quickly. What's taking you so long??? :) :) :)

Seriously though, if you have any other colors you'd like to see, it takes me a minute to work it up.

Hey, personally, the only type of "two tone" finishes I care for are sunbursts myself. I've never been a fan of bali bursts myself.

As Im looking around for ideas and what not, I learned the "real" spalted maple axi' were very rare and only released in japan. Sure hope I'm not offending one that owns one or the boys upstairs either.

Loving this thread...I agree with keith though, that top is so pretty, I think it would look great just oiled or maybe a gentle burst?

I don't think anybody will be offended. Based on previous threads over the years, I think the company prefers not to have their name associated with anybody elses's work, which I'm sure you understand. If you were refinishing the headstock I think they would prefer you didn't re-logo the headstock (and of course no decal logos for sale on line are sold legally). But it's your guitar and you'll do as you see right.

I agree. I think it looks fantastic as it is and my vote would be for a clear high-gloss varnish. And personally I wouldn't paint the trem rout black either, I'd finish the routed surfaces the same as the top. Just my two cents.

Hey @Bob123:

I am an owner of an "official" spalted maple Axis and I am not offended. Why would I be? Mine's an official one, yours is a custom. I say the more the merrier! Here's mine:

Wow Jeff....that spalted Axis is amazing. I just love flamed, spalted maple with a natural-ish finish. Gorgeous.

I get offended by those Fiero kit cars that are made to look like Lamborghinis... But in this case, that is a bad comparison.

My vote is also for something natural, no paint on the top. :)

Funny story ... I had a guy working for me that had one, looked like a Ferrari. He would rack up parking tickets, but got out of all of them by calling the city, acting confused and telling them he drove a Pontiac, not a Ferrari. Brilliant.
