Wasn't there mention a while back about EBMM having their own strap lock design? I may be hallucinating or having DT’s but seems like I remember that. Is that binding or a decorative wood layer between the top and back woods? None of this matters to me ‘cause I love it and I’ll be get’n one… maybe two!

… Anyone want to buy a nice little car previously own by a nymphomaniac who only used the back seat?

Will this new design be offered after the anniversary? Does that mean the future SR5 will be offered like this (no pickguard, flat horns,etc...) ?

I'm not a 5 string player but what a great looking bass.

I like the contrasting stripe between the top and body wood like the 20th silo.

That's what i seem to remember too!

Adouglas has a point, they do look a lot like the Bongo strap buttons. But it also looks like the head is thicker, which reminds me of a strap lock design...

Back to the SR5 20th. If that thing came with a maple neck, an optional pickguard and a single H pickup, i would sell a kidney.

Jack has stated that it comes in the singleH variety. Since he knows a couple guys that work the factory, I'd take it as gospel. Also, I don't see why you couldn't get it in a maple neck. Somebody in the know please correct me if I'm wrong. As for the optional pg, you could always add one but I would have second or third thoughts about taking a drill to that thing. When's the kidney go up on Ebay?

Now we have a Holiday preview of a bass that many have been waiting to see for many months. It turned into your critique of the bass ( not requested or particularly wanted by anyone) and a thread about your rights and how much you like a competeting brand. If you post your opinion leave it at that and leave the responses at that. Both parties get to make their point with out passing gas at the holiday table. It is like a coupla drunks arguing politics or religion and not realizing that they broke up the party and busted others groove in their quest for thier opinion to reign supreme.

I am not going to stop posting this stuff. Please understand that it isnt a focus group here and we arent soliciting design input. It is really most like a pre release listening party for your favorite band that you got a invite to. Even if you dont get it initially you would be respectful. You wouldnt talk about your playing and other bands that you like. You would hopefully soak it in and enjoy the ride.

I want this to be a comfortable home for people that are really into what we do. It is a way of communicating and thanking them for their support. It is not a playground without boundries or common courtesy. There are many forums out there where you can dominate and misdirect. This isnt one. This isnt one where you can fire on the boss and get corporate speak either.

Now let me give you the reason for the no pickguard. As I have said this is a bass that pays tribute to the original whilst trying to integrate the progress we have made over the celebrated period. This is our goal anytime we decide to recognize a period of time for one of our designs.

One of the biggest breakthroughs we have made is the three body tone woods. With this bass the basic body is ash, the tone block is Mahoghany and the top is maple. Each one really does add something. We really couldn't see covering a rare and beautiful piece of maple with a plastic pickguard. It seemed tacky.

By the way the Alnico with the tone block is amazing.

Critics will say that anniversary models are just cheap marketing tricks...some companies are happy with R&D being a reissue, a paint can, or a country of origin. When this happens with us you will be able to spot the fork in my back from miles away as I will be done. Gone baby, gone.

Gasp...I'm not a gearwhore (I only own 1 bongo), but if this SR5 sounds like it looks, I think I'll get some shoulders to carry a 5 string bass.

Beat me for this one but : what means back loaded electronics (or : what is the difference with a stock SR 5) ?

Thank you, sir! You just saved me loads of time.

Who wants a pickguard on this? Show me this heretic!

I too think the pickguard on the SR5 is sort of an icon, but I cannot tell you how many times I've heard others (none of you, of course, I mean bad people) say, "The pickguard is too big! It covers up all that nice wood/finish!"

Well, here you go. A Stingray 5 without a pickguard. Alnico pickups. Mahogany tone block. Fancy top. Binding. Your choice of pickup configuration.

Be the first on your mahogany tone block!

MNF, if you look at this photo:

You'll see that the knobs are attached to the pickguard. There is a cavity beneath the knobs where all the magic stuff goes, and it has all been dropped in from the front of the bass. Thus, front loaded electronics.

Another example:

No cover on the back for electronics, right? Just a battery compartment. So the electronics have been loaded from the front.

On the SR5 20th, no pickguard - so that beautiful expanse of finish is uninterrupted by a plastic pickguard. Just fine looking wood and knobs. On the back of the SR5 20th, you'll see the cover for the compartment for the electronics, meaning they were installed from the back.

Hope that clears it up.

Could someone from the EB Factory be pleased to tell what color the pictures are? I really like that instrument.

Thanks much
