Old strings get cut off... You suggesting you cut the length of new strings before winding?

Me too, but I run the string through the bridge and measure the length beyond the post (4" or so) then cut... Effective cure for the the "cutting too short" problem! :)

Never broke a string and never cut one too short. Not hard to do when you haven't had to change strings for the whole time you have played your bass. :)

I've broken three bass strings in 17 years. All of them E strings, all on different basses. Last one was December 2003.

Cutting them too short? Only once... thought the A string was the E. Alcohol-related.
