well, the body wood used on the bongo isn't generally known for it's aesthetic appeal. Basswood often has greenish streaks in it, and is usually finished with a solid color. The same is true for poplar, which I believe is what is used on the Stingrays with solid finishes.
They could probably do an Ash bongo, but I think they settled on basswood after a lengthy testing process, and feel it's very important to the unique sound.
