JF,

Get a good night's sleep. Get the bass in your posession (or in transit anyway), and then give your paypal info.

I'm in for $20.

Jean...get a good night's sleep. Let us know when the bass is on it's way and give us the paypal information. Believe me, with this, you will help someone out down the road and remeber this situation.

Lamerjay...thanks for the offer. We might still take you up on it...but let's let Jean get his paypal info to us.

You guys are the best. I'm exhausted myself dealing with this. Not a complaint in any means....I would do it again in a minute. I can't imagine Jean's stress level at this point. He is a cool dude and I wish the circumstances were different to warrant a phone call to him. He's a cool dude.

Again, WHERE else would this happen?

Count me in :) Glad its coming back home Jean!

Here is an idea, lets also take out a full page add in the Vancouver paper telling everyone how these scumbags made him buy back his stolen bass.

WOW, I just read all 20 pages of this thread. I had seen it going on, but I hadn't read any of it and I am sure glad I did. I am only sorry that I didn't jump in sooner and possibly get the dealer (Steve's) involved. Perhaps there could have been some way that Steve's could have claimed it as theirs and filed a police report on it.

Alls well that ends well. Too bad the pawn shop didn't just give the bass back to him, because now they're missing out on people from all over the world buying stuff from his shop (probably could have made a lot more than $450CAD on us too).

Nonetheless, let me know where I can send a 20-spot. I am paypal challenged (don't know how to use it) so if I could just mail some currency that would be awesome.

All of you guys have been so awesome. I can't believe that something like this happened on our little forum. It sounds like a freaking movie or something!! I am SO PROUD of all of you, I don't think you could find a better group of people anywhere. I'm totally floored and SO PROUD to even be in association with all of you. Koogie, now I see what you were talking about! DUH, I feel so stupid!

That said, everyone have a FABULOUS Labor Day weekend!!!

-Beth :)

Amazing thread...

I've had no reason so far to be well versed in Canadian law... this sounds a little like UK law where a party who buys a stolen item in good faith has some claim to it. I worked for UK Trading Standards for a while and, while it wasn't my department, I got to hear a fair amount about people who discovered they'd bought a stolen car...

JF, are you going to get legal advice on how to recover your money from the person who sold the bass to the shop? The paypal fund idea is great and all*, but don't let this maggot get away with his wallet intact. Make sure he gets hit with criminal and civil action.

I am not a lawyer and all other disclaimers apply.

*I'll chuck in $20 or thereabouts if I can figure out how. :)

Yes, this is absolutley awesome. What a great group of people! I am glad I found this forum when I did.

JF when you get your paypal setup there is a way to establish donations. A group called Bad Acid Trip were on the Ozzfest side stage this year and they had a Paypal setup where you could automatically donate a $5 at the click of a button. Maybe you can set it up for $5, $10, and $20. If you need help doing that let me know. I think I can walk you through it.

A sticky would also be great if someone can get one going when all is setup and if JF can keep us posted on his total. When this gets going I will post the link here and the Paypal address on my myspace and send out a bulletin so we can get the word out and hopefully get some more donations to get this thing done.

Good work people. When I get my MM, Soon!, I will really feel like part of the family...

So we're almost at our "Happy Ending" - and although JF will need to buy his bass back (still can't understand this!?) the forum response makes for an even more compelling story.

This is so much more exciting that realit TV... :p

I'm good for $5-$10 once the PayPal thing is in place. I think it's wonderful how supportive "imaginary friends" can be. :)

And the thing is, we're not "imaginary" -- and we're all here for each other at the click of a button. It's a very comforting thought. :)

Thank GOD we were born when we were, eh? To think of all those generations who never saw the Internet...

I may be needing to read ten pages of posts.

Did this forum just pay for a stolen bass?
