i was debating with myself if I should let know on how much there is now

Hey J-F, I thought you were one of us?
A running count is needed so we know when the $450 is reached. Don't make us regret helping you out, ok?

I hope you didn't mean it the way it came out...

I'm starting to think we should have sent some cash to the people who did the legwork and made the phone calls, rather that J-P. I've just checked my Paypal account, and the payment has cleared, which means he has already verified his bank details.

I have contributed. But...

1. JF, you need to give us a running total.
2. JF, you need to get legal advice and sue the person that sold the bass to the shop. This is not optional.
3. Of course, then you'd have two lots of $450. I strongly suggest one of those is donated to the CLB foundation.

I don't believe in karma per se, but... you know...

I highly doubt that, he has a pretty firm grasp of English and we all know what he ment. Why J.F. would even think about keeping that information secret from the very folks who are helping him out is beyond me.

Well let's see what JF has to say. I would not send anything else until he can explain. I sure hope he can explain himself...

Let's see where we are at. The last post was kinda "scary" and I hope it wasn't meant to be that way....I am almost sure it wasn't...but still.

JF...let's get that total and see where we stand. I agree, if it is over the $450, that money should go right to the Casey Lee Ball Foundation...even if it is $5 over.

I think we should give JF the 'benefit of the doubt' on this one. Too many people now know of his whereabouts for him to pull any shady stunts:eek:
I kind of took his post to mean that he was debating with himself whether or not he should publicly post the accrued amount.... why? Don't know. But now you guys have made me a bit uneasy.

simply show somebody the account activity.........like mabey poppa......or a moderator ?????? just to put the understandably uneasy folks at ease. i'm not worried myself......
i'm thinkin he didn't want to post the accured amount cause it's only half enough...& didn't feel confortable asking 4 more.
but......... someone sould be allowed to varify the account activity.

AM gonna hold off for now - shame as this was an incredible thread full of generosity. JF you need to address the issues man. These folk are as good hearted as they come but don't bite the hand and all that......(there are also some shrewd people here who don't like being taken to a ride on account of their good nature to help a fellow brother out)
sorry not meant to be that harsh but...you know. If you feel embarrased about varifying stuff ask Jack, BP or any of the mods with a pm.

Guys...! I'm sure it's not what he meant... otherwise he would have been smart enough not to say it ;)
Being french speaking myself, I know it can be difficult to communicate sometimes (you think in French, then translate to the best of your knowledge, but that doesn't always turn out right).

I spoke with him the other evening. He called to thank me personally for finding his bass. He seems to be a good kid, and I think he lives with his parents.

Here is my take. Lets try to avoid being a pendilum on this. The big picture is that you guys were so cool land showed a great side of humanity in a day when you need a microscope to find any. Hats off to you.

I think that hindsight is 20/20, but we should have used a regular forumite's paypal account and when we hit 450 forward it to the man. It is very kind of you to suggest the CLB, but I dont want any of you to be obligated.

I also think that it should cost J-F something.

If this is how we treat a guy who has left our forum, I wonder how we would treat a regular in need. Impressive.

P.S. Until you get a full and running account I would advise that you stop donating.

Even if we were wrong about the guy I think what we tried to do was a great thing and I don't regret it a bit. I'm not going to sweat the money I sent, and I don't think anyone else should either. Consider it positive karma...

Personally I think it was J-F making a "joke", but money over the internet is a sensitive topic, so he should be a little more careful. I think I would feel a little uncomfortable (but grateful) that a bunch of strangers were giving me money. I would have no idea how to express my thanks. But that's just me.

J-F, post an update total so we can see where things are at.

I could see how people read it that way - I thought "whoa, we're goin into the Danger Zone here", but since I deal with people whose second language is English every day (or sometimes 3rd or 4th) I thought I should re-read the post before I jumped to any conclusions.

After some consideration I figured the message read like this "I was debating whether I myself should check the balance.." i.e. he was overwhelmed/excited/grateful to have even been receiving donations. Am I being totally naive in thinking this?

I found the e-mail address a bit ironic myself. ;)

I prefer to give folks the benefit of the doubt - always assume good intentions. :)
