Hey Figjam, it's ok , if we owned a Ric we'd be pissed off too and be wanting to argue with everyone who'd play our Game,

Once he gets a few Music Mans he'll get back to normal.

That's a possibilty.

The Last chick I got with my Sterling was Very good Looking, Yes and i did marry her butttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

I have my 100 or so Basses and she has the 6 Bedroom House. So the bad part about the Sterling is, too bad there wasn't some sort of Good Looking Chick Insurance, lol
Waaaaaaaaaa, lol

I acquired a Sabre, which I believe is the same neck as the Sterling, or very close. I really like that neck.

Some Sabres may have different necks and I've even heard of some with 1.5" necks. In general though, they aren't the same as a Sterling. Sabre necks are slightly wider at the nut and have a flatter profile. Sterling necks are more like a classic Fender J bass. A really good J bass.

My 83 nine pound Sabre is lighter by a half pound than my 96 Sterling. I don't think that mass is the be all and end all of tone.

The only brand new bass I ever bought was a Ric 4001 back in 79 or so. I hated it. Neck diving, neck bowing POC for me. Chris Squire seemed to deal with it OK OTOH, but it wasn't my cup o' tea.

So I hear, I have been told they are always great Lovers because they always think it could be their last time.

And you can bet they'll have the best snacks too, cause when your ugly what the heck, lets eat.

Well those Ric's Had 2 truss rods and there was a reason for that, I do many repairs on Basses and have many customers from all Over but I just hate working on Rics, so I charge thru the ying yang and that has stopped many from wearing me out with them.

Even more wisdom. Treat everything you do as if it were your last time. Ya never know, it might be.

Everything in moderation.

That Ric used to go out of tune by a full half step during the course of a set on a Winter's eve. You could practically watch the neck bow. The manual said the warranty was void if you used heavier strings than it came with.

Meanwhile, back on topic... Does a Sterling sound like a SR5? I have both and I'm not even sure. They don't seem to sound the same to me but I've heard recordings of me playing both and then I can't tell the difference. MR Nut might be in a good position to shed an opinion. I only have one of each.

Yes Sterlings and SR 5's are very simular in tone, both Sporting Ceramic Maggnets and Preamps are almost Identical, Both now using the phantom Coil, but as you know, 10 of the same basses will sound a bit different due too woods, necks etc.

For recording Rosewood necks give a great woody tone and maple necks give you the glassy edge I Love.

Almost every gig I do there is always 2 stingrays & a Sterling or vise versa.

Nothing Sounds and Plays Like the Ernie Ball Basses. Them boys got the Art down.
