Honestly, I can understand why. As much as I enjoy the SSS, considering I play top 40s music with my band, the HSS is far more suitable for generic playing. Simply because of the bridge humbucker. For SSS, mainly blues and country people use it, or Hendrix fans. The HSS is more suitable as most people use humbucker tones in the bridge, and single coil tones in the neck.
Oh yeah, I could definitely understand the greater versatility of the HSS for a main gigging ax.
But (and I hope I don't get my knuckles whacked for saying this), since changing the pups in my SSS, I'm believing that there's more Strat players that can be won over to the light if MM rethinks the Silo Special SSS pup choice. I'm talking about buying right off the rack cuz it slays their strat flat out on the dime. The stock SSS's sound good, but imo, not really stratesque enough to win die-hard strat players.
I consider my rosewood board HSS (with a Breed HB and stock SS) my dark and powerful guitar, and my maple board SSS (with Fralin blues specials) my trusy Strat sounding guitar. You prolly member when I was wanting that strat "clang" from my SSS? Brother, it's got it now and it's my numbero uno.
