The switch to BFR neckplates was likely a cost savings, and inventory reduction, as now 'standard' necks can be used. We've seen a few of these type of changes over the years: change of backplates and no longer recessing them.

The guitar market is poop right now. Can i say that?!? So I don't blame mm for wanting to save some money. You know when things take off again they'll probably add it. Regardless, I think you need to change things up and keep it fresh. Right now we should see some great limited editions come out :)

This is very sad news.... I also like the BFR inlay. And I'm just on the way of ordering a 7-string BFR left-handed, so I'm frustrated now...

I never liked it. These guitars are already works of art and don't need a badge stuck in the middle of it to be the first thing I noticed about them.

I just wish there was a way to identify a BFR from the front. That gives it a little more cred, like when a dude's playing an axe he wants you to know how badd-a$$ ($$'s intentional since really he want's you to know how much he paid for it) his axe is without having to show you the neckplate. Not sure I loved the design of the 12th fret inlay, but I liked the idea of having something obvious set them apart.

An example would be the Gibson custom inlay that they do on the headstock (I'm not a Gibson fan and own zero Gibsons).

I sold my last Gibson today. It was a beautiful 04 wine red custom in dead mint condition. It's really hard to find a guitar more beautiful than these, they just play like a brick! Now its time to decide which petrucci model to go for and if I want to sell my mint ibanez JPm to go to the cause....

This is 100% away from what I look for in an expensive guitar! I'm after tone & quality, not attention seeking "look at me" bling. Each to their own!

Same here.. I don't like the idea of brands in general as it promotes elitism, I however understand the necessity from a business stand point.
