Hey, I'd be happy just playing 1 of the songs I'm listed under. I'd even be almost happy watchin other people play.... to a point :)

That being said, how about you guys review the list and pick 1-2 songs each. If your name appears with others' for a tune, commiserate offlist and come up with a duo/trio that's happy/content playing something you can all manage. That should help narrow things down. Then post your preferred songs (1st choice, 2nd choice) here so we can come up with a set list that is close to reality.

If I messed up with grouping names, feel free to correct it. We need to be concise pronto since it's only next weekend!

For those of you who will be learning something unfamiliar, go online and search for a song clip or pay a visit to your local music store. Unless, of course, someone can email you a .wav / .mpg file...

Just trying to help...

My picks from most to least favorite to play are:

1. Rockin in the Free World
2. Radar Love
3. Smoke On The Water
4. Ain't that a Shame

If I have to pick two its the first two.
:)

here's the knucklehead songlist that we will work from to make the knucklehead set list...

Hey Tommy, Great Job on the list! I know that was a big, big job. It is a huge help for everyone going to the jam. Good job!

I think I agree with Big Poppa on the format of the jam, with the serious time constraints and everything.

If you don't mind me suggesting this, I have had some experience with organizing this type of event before and found that a certain system works very well, and also allows for some on the spot modifications if need be. In addition, it’s a proven technique!

1) You will need four bowls (any container will do) Designate two guitar player bowls and 2 bass player bowls. Put all the guitar forumites names in one bowl and all bass forumites names in another bowl.

2) (you can start with either bowl, assuming you start with the guitar bowl). Pull a name from the guitar bowl. Then the guitar player will pick a bass player of his choice. Both the guitar player and the bass player names will then be removed from their original bowls and placed into the second empty guitar and bass player bowls for use later.

3) Proceed with this sequence throughout the jam until all names from the original two bowls are picked.

4) The second set of bowls are rotated in after that if and when needed.

Limitations: Two songs per forumite combo; songs not to exceed @4-4.5 mins in length.

Prepared: Players should be “tuned and ready” to plug in and unplug immediately.

Notice: Players given advanced notice (a full set ahead) of who’s going up next, so that they know who’s on deck. This assures preparedness.

This technique guarantees that everyone will have not only a chance to play, but are prepared to play, and also choose who they play with and what songs they play. It covers all the bases!!

It’s a viable proven jam technique. I hope this may help you get organized.

OK, but replace Ain't That a Shame with Rockin in the Free World

Tommy,
Whadaya think with Wonder dog's change? that's 6 guitar players 2 songs each. Pretty solid set.

Many of the 80 songs listed had some folks for as many as 10 songs!

Looking at the original list (from the guitar perspective), that still leaves steveb, daveb, mbgreene, mike teevee for then next set.

And I bleeb that's all the guitarists on the list.

But what about Jongitarz? wasn't he gonna play, also? Jon?
And Jdouglee will be there. That would make another good set.

I was on the original list.....but am more than happy to step aside and watch everyone else, if there is a jam at the end I may be persuaded to play.

I thought I'd get a taker for lead guitar on Tush though

It looks like too little time, and too many guitar players...I'm going to sit this one out and watch....This night is for you guys anyway, and I can't wait to hear you all.

And a couple others who aren't in Tommy's 1st post in thread are. BEEJ, DWF (mod), what happened?

C'mon guys. We should be able to put at least 2 complete sets together with all the different (*ahem*) "talent" that'll be there. We're more than halfway there. Just need to tie up a few loose ends.

Don't bail, Jon.

I'm cool with doing just a couple of good songs; I just didn't know how much jam time we had, or how many bass players were involved.

At this point - I think I'll pass also

Didn't get an offer for a lead player and I'm really unqualified to do same. Haven't performed for long enough that when I tried putting it all together with guit/vocals it wasn't working. Plus I wouldn't want to be the one to screw up someone elses performance.

Geez, I say I would be happy playing just 1 song, and everyone starts backing out?

I don't regularly perform (once a month or every other for a few songs as guest guitar for various bands I am friends with), but still there is nothing like a stage-high :D

Time to start a list of people willing to whore themselves out for the night....
Put me down :)

What can the NorM do?

Hey I am thrilled to play one song! I would love to do a 3 minute solo piece to give the drummer a break while the next guitarist gets their sh..stuff together. But the set list is huge. In the interest of keeping things moving I will even offer to pull a jon and sit this one out. Again I will love to play but I just have to say:

What can I do to help?
I'm sorry I don't have a f*nder to stick my head in. Whoops! I ended a sentence with a preposition. Let's try that again. I'm sorry I don't have a f*nder to stick my head in ... be-och.

And I even went so far as to make and send a video tape of my songs to Larry so he can get comfortable with them.

And he went out and bought a VCR so he could watch it...though he said he needed one anyways.

We're good to go...(at least he says he will be :p )

I like the idea of setting up a setlist beforehand, that one looks fine to me.

Mebbe make up sets 1 & 2 ahead of time, then let BP play a gong solo for set 3?

Pete's just saying that cause I still owe a wad of money for my Luke on order with him!

But the tank is pretty nice ;)

I'd be relieved just to get through 'em w/o being gonged. Or Luke yelling out "HOLD THE LINE!" :D

How about steveB, DaveB, Jongitarz, mb Greene, Beej, Mike Teevee figuring out set #2? (I think that's all the guitar players from tommy's post)

Then maybe we can have set #3 be a little looser and put that together during the evening friday to allow late comers a chance to change their mind (after a few drinks).

Get a hold of the bass players guys.

On my ONE SONG (not that I'm pointing out anything here), Norm and Dudley are the guitarists (Little Sister in E) and - although he seems to be trying to weasel out of it - Juan Guitarrez. (I understand your sentiments, Jon, but it's a Forum Event and how can we survive without you playing at least once?)

It's just my opinion here that some of you guys are really overestimating the probability that a loose jam, consisting of people who have never MET much less played together, will come together right now, over me.

I will never forget the guy at the weekly blues jam that broke into "Aqualung". Sure, I know it, but I wasn't up there - it was some guy who knew a lot of Four Tops. And the drummer was completely open-mouthed. I mean, what's next? Side two of "Thick as a Brick"?

Dumb it down and see if you can play JUST one tune, and it's always helpful if you can at least pretend to sing the thing, too. Keep in mind what BP said about the poor drummer. How likely is he to know the songs you've chosen? Are there a number of rests and starts and stops and is it in 11/32? Be kind to the man.

This is just a suggestion from the Bottom Feeders Point of View and not any sort of mandate, to be sure, but I've done a lot of open jams in my life, and you have to shoot for that lowest common denominator (and not kill the drummer, God bless him).

Mr Bov...I will still play Little Sister if needed...I just think it's more of a thing for you forum guys, and I would rather you all have the stage because the weekend is for you guys.

BTW you need to call me soon, so we can plan the airport times and such.

BTW #2 I did catch that John Lennon reference in case nobody else did
