I truly appreciate what you're doing and I would totally love to attend something like this but, living in Eastern Canada, the airfare alone is cost prohibitive. If I lived in Vancouver I'd drive there. Missing something as cool sounding as this, is already killing me. Stop reminding me.... ;)

kevin
If that were the cost for me, I'd be there. Add close to $1000 to the airfare and we're in the right range.

;(

Now what about autographs, is this something that you guys will address...or perhaps it has already been discussed.

Good tip, Kevin. I wish they flew from Pittsburgh but I've already bought my tix anyway.

Hopefully some of you forumites who haven't committed yet will find a deal on Jet Blue and then throw down your plastic!

Hey, if you're American you're probably carrying debt anyway (believe me, I see your credit reports...). So what's another grand? :p

The US carriers are a good cheap option indeed ... but only if you live close to the border! Works if you're in Toronto (Buffalo's not too far away) but would be really tough for blackspy or Raz.

Originally I tried to work out an extended trip for the family to see some sights and old friends in Cali and incorporating the festivities at EBMM in order to justify the travel time and expenses. My wife's work and daughters school schedule couldn't accomodate.

But now I think I'm gonna work on the Jet Blue/Motel 6/sub-compact rental/17 traveling hours in three days/ Rock concert/ bachelor weekend in SLO. It's been a long time, but hopefully my body can still handle it.

mbgreene,

I hope you can swing it! It'd be cool to meet you. I haven't even thought about renting a car. I'm flying in Friday and out on Sunday. It'll be a whirlwind weekend, but I have 2 young 'uns who are staying behind with their grandparents.

In looking for flight info based on the new possible plan it came across as cheaper to fly JFK to San Jose on Jet Blue and drive down with a $20/day rental car Fri-Sun than spending the additional funds on a connecting flight to SLO. The overall travel time considering the layovers I was seeing is about the same. Some of the other folks may want to consider the same.

On the way back I can drive by my friend who just bought a new house up in Foster City (between SF and San Jose), stop in for dinner and take a redeye overnight Sunday.

If it was still a family consideration, I would go for more convenience and luxury but if its just me I don't care. This is more of a challenge anyway.

Now I'm working on the final details - wife convincing :D

Hm,

as most of you know, I'm coming all the way from Belgium. Now, since this will definitely be a once in a livetime experience (mind the pun :p ; I'm starting to build our own house next year, so money will be very short next year), I will try not to look at the total cost :p . But, I have seen some conflicting thoughts around here lately on transport and I would gladly hear from you all what would be the best/fastest/most economical way to get to SLO. My first though was to fly from Brussels to LA, rent a car and drive all the way to SLO (only problem is that it is approximately a 3 hour drive, correct me if I'm wrong, and that the best flights out of Brussels arrive at LAX too late or barely in time). So, I read some invitations for a lift, but the major question is: what is, if you're really planning on picking people up at LAX, the deadline in order to arrive at SLO in time?? Furthermore, I'm not a US citizen, but I was rather sure that renting a car to drive from LA to SLO and back, would cost me some bucks. I've found ticks from LA to SLO round trip for 294$ with UA and was wondering if this is a) a good price for such a distance (I don't have frequent fly miles and stuff like that, heck, I've not been on a plain 10 times yet), b) if this isn't cheaper than renting a car??

Ok, I know, a lot of questions for one post, but I wanted to book my ticks today (it's already 11 PM in Belgium) but think I will wait for some answers from you all ;)

Thanks in advance. And for all the Europeans out there: guys, it's only a 14 hour flight and it will be worth every single dollar. My uncle, who custom built guitars, died five years ago and had been talking about visiting the Gibby plant for 20 years. He kept on postponing, we'll go next year. And next year became two years later and so on. He has never been to the USA and never will be, and I, for one, regret this in his place. So, gather the money, go for it, and meet us there.

Cheers, Tom.

I'd desperately like to attend, but it will cost a lot of money and I have troubles at work, so I really can't make a call on it now. What's the deadline for reserving a place at the event?

BP, do you need a highly motivated sales rep in the UK to preach the word of EBMM and push your product out to the masses (seeing as no one knew about the SUB1 over here for a while, I think it's worth it ;) )
