Reference to it gone too.

On a tenuously-related note, a few years ago I was working as a barman in Oxford. We got a lot of tourists coming in, particularly Americans (nothing against Americans, obviously) who often ordered a disgusting concotion known as a "Black and Tan". I'd just finished explaining to one customer why he might get a funny reaction in some bars if they asked for one (the Black and Tans were a regiment of conscripted British prisoners who served in Ireland in the early 20th century and were, on the whole, pretty nasty to the Irish catholics... some people are still sensitive to that), when a group of American tourists came in and ordered "Irish Car Bombs" all round...

A number of years ago George Jones was playing in town.My wife was working at the hotel he was staying at and told him we were playing in a little bar just around the corner from where he was playing his concert. He gave us all tickets to the show and we passed along the invitation to come down after the concert. We were able to catch George's show before our gig. Most of the Jones Boys came down to the bar we were playing and they actually got up and jammed. They were deadly musicians and it was a joy to watch them cut loose. The bar was giving them free drinks and drink they did. Towards the end of the evening one of the owners told me that those "Yankees" were drinking him out of house and home. I had to say "don't ever , ever , refer to those guys as " Yankees" - they come from way below the Mason Dixon Line " Those would be fighting words where they come from.

....and to reply to the topic. Technic it is not hard to do a basic bridge setup yourself. I would not try to file the nut though unless you actually know what you are doing. Many people tweak their truss rods twice a year. There are many sites on the net that describe the proper set up better than I could but if you do it yourself you can set it up exactly the way you like it.You should have a tuner to check your intonation. After you have done it a couple of times it becomes very easy. You should re-check everything if you change string guages or tension. Good luck....it's all pretty straightforward really.

Q: Could you tell me Music Man's StingRay factory settings for relief, string height, and pickup height?

A: Virtually all the adjustments to string height can be made with the truss rod. Turn clockwise to raise the finger board, counter clockwise to lower. The ideal string height for our basses is 3/32" or 2.4mm between the bottom of the string to the top of the fret on both the E and G strings at the 12th fret. The G string can be slightly lower due to the fact that it is the smallest string. This affects the bow of the neck.

The factory specifications for the pickup height is 5/32" or 4.0mm from the top of each pickup pole piece to the bottom of each string. The angle of the pickup may have to be adjusted to match each string. However, if you haven't already adjusted the pickup or changed to a very heavy gauge string set, you shouldn't have to do any adjustments on the pickup.
