Question Married guys; what do you do about?...

I'm getting hitched next month ( )and I don't think I like the idea of a wedding ring scratching up my nice EB necks. Do you guys take it off each time you play, or is it not as big of a deal as I'm imagining (I read something about Albert King destroying a guitar neck with his rings a while ago)?

It takes a little while to get used to but I really don't think the ring will be a problem, plus you can get some cool slide and tapping effects with it.

I think the story of Mr. King destroying his neck with his rings involved some seriously gaudy stuff and not just a wedding band.

Always comes off, right back on when done playing, also comes off with yardwork, electrical work, etc.,etc. hopfully you will have an understanding wife like I do

I got married in may. I have a tungsten carbide ring. It weighs, approximately, 4 lbs (slight exageration). I was playing the other day, on stage at church, and slid my hand up the neck - rather fast. Sounded like machine gun fire was coming out of my guitar.

I haven't had the problem since, and I haven't removed my ring.

Just be careful.

These tungsten rings are AWESOME. They don't scratch or bend or stain.

I have had no problems playing when I got my white gold wedding ring - odd as it sounds, I think it helped improve my finger independence between my ring finger and my pinky (something about the extra weight it added helped me feel a greater separation between the two fingers)

The ringing. Well, I just palm the strings and it gives a cool kind of EVH effect.

Oh....you mean THE ring. Never noticed. Never really bothered anything. Now, I'll probably never be able to play again....

For the longest time I kept my ring on when playing .... made some great slide sounds, etc.

But lately, since I've been playin' my honeyburst Super Sport more often, I prefer not to wear my wedding ring

I always leave mine on when I play, and it has never caused any damage to any neck. Doesn't get in the way at all.

Mine's never caused any damage to any of my guitar necks, though it has gotten me a few dirty looks from guitar store salesmen when it clicked against the neck of a nice guitar.

Been married 8 years, was 50kg heavier then. When I lost the weight 4 years ago I had the ring resized, but not enough, so I cant wear it anymore! Just slides right off, however it did get in the way quite often previously so it's a tiny bit nice to not have to wear it while playing guitar now. The tough part for me 8 years ago was finding the money to buy the ring in the first place!!!!! I knew there wa sno way I could slap a cheap on her finger, i dont think i bought a guitar for 2 years, making up for it ever since though!

Never even noticed it.

At 6'4"+, I've got massive hands / long fingers.

(260mm / 10" span from tip of thumb to tip of pinky when spread),

so i think it's always clear of the neck ?

Used to take it off, then my fingers got a little fatter and it was too hard to take off. I adapted and have never really had a problem with it. Now my watch always gets taken off; my wrist feels weird when I play with it on.
