To me it's easy: if the fretboard is rosewood I prefer matching and if the fretboard is maple I prefer natural...
The only exception to this rule is the Axis - it simply must have a maple board and a matching headstock.

personally, for me, if it wasnt an option i wouldnt have ever noticed or thought about it

It's no deal maker or breaker for me either. If my natural one was painted and my painted one was natural, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it or enjoy them any less. Function/utility is what it's about for me, and is only complimented by form.

LOL! Glenn, man, you have no idea how much restraint it takes to keep me from goin' on about that stuff. I have to keep reminding myself this isn't a yijing or feng shui forum.

"Here at the highest stage of development all ornament is discarded. Form no longer conceals content but brings out its value to the full. Perfect grace consists not in exterior ornamentation of the substance, but in the simple fitness of its form. "

Maybe after the second cup of coffee? :D

I generally don't care for matching headstocks. I think it usually looks a bit tacky. But I like the matching 20th Silo headstock, and I've seen some Jaguars with matching headstocks that I liked.

Matching headstock with rosewood... Yes! Almost a must have for the eyes...

Matching headstock with Maple... Nice, but not always necessary...

Y2D Matching Headstock?

I haven't seen any Y2D's with matching headstock. Are they available? Is it special order?

Thanks,
Ron

Not a special order and there are a lot floating around. Check the pictures thread, I'm sure there are a couple like that in there.

Personally, I'd only go with non-matching when it's a lighter colour. (Cudbucket's JP6 for ex.) Although, I must admit, when JP used that Black Sparkle on In The Name of God on Live at Budokan, it looked pretty sweet.

BTW, my matching headstock was just the fate of eBay, so I'm not complaining!

It's never really bothered me one way or the other, but having said that, all of my guitars are natural (non-matching).

Maybe it's a sub-concious thing (or maybe it's just what was in the shop at the time?)
