That guitar is just like my #1 except it has the Rosewood board. I can tell you that when I got my Axis and hardtail EVH, both came with trem springs in the 'case candy'. They have of course disappeared into the sands of time!

If you ever decide to sell it, put me on first refusal!

Just got this in the mail today. It's the original sales slip for the guitar. So it now has the original case candy and receipt.

Yeah, I have my receipt somewhere from my Green EVH. It was $1350 shipped. Made a pretty penny off of that one. :)

Necrobump...7 years later. Sorry.

I just got a (what I hope is my first of several) Axis hardtail from 1997. I had a 2002 Axis already but I'm not a Floyd guy, really, so the hardtail is more me. This thing is amazing. Curious if purple ones ever show up out in the wild, though?

Very nice. yes there were some purple floating around and some amber top.

Perfect light weight sound machine I have the EVH version but that’s basically the same as yours.

Congrats

I just picked up this red beauty. Can't wait for it to arrive. First time I caught a guitar literally mins after it was posted for sale.

i had this axis hardtail

i had had an EVH hardtail but the neck was a little unstable and i didn't like how narrow it was up near the neck joint. this was one of the most amazing sounding axes (pun intended) that i've ever had. i would KILL to get it back. cool top, too.

but what is most interesting is the TONE CONTROL. i was asked if it had been added. i didn't know then, but now that i have studied them a bit i have never seen one from this era with a tone control. is it possible this was a stock feature?
A long time has passed since you posted this. Did you ever get an answer as to if any of the other even axis hardtails had the tone pot? I am buying a 97-98 model that is the axis hardtail with a Tone pot on it & have never seen one like this either. It has a Trans amber / gold top with a beautifully defined flame pattern, maybe this is the one you once owned!

I may be understanding the terminology here. Are you talking about an EVH Axis hardtail? Both of my Axis Sport hardtail models were the usual V/T/5-way setup.

Yea this is about the holy grail either an EVH hardtail or the early Axis hard tail, had an Axis HT wish I so would have kept it, just was not crazy about the color at the time, now that stuff is meaningless to me

So I guess I should snatch this up for $1500?

Yeah, it is listed as a 98 axis gold / non trem. Nothing else is listed spec wise. Isn’t this part of “the holy grail evh axis hard tail run where there was only 200 or so made before coming out with the sport & super sports?

A lot of folks selling things don't know what they have, the instruments history, etc., and may not care. And many won't say much because they're hiding something. I have been the recipient of both kinds. Either way that is not an awful price for what may simply be a fine guitar, just not the golden goose.
