Hi. All I can tell you is that it's a 1979. Records were never kept for the Pre-EB instruments. Dates are recorded on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body

Hi. As said in the post directly above, records were never kept for Pre-EB instruments. That is also the same for early EB instruments with the "B" and "C" serials (there are some very early EB Sabres with the "C" serial). I'm presuming your Bass is a Pre-EB Sabre. C001832 would indicate 1979 but the serials are not necessarily chronological. If your fretless board is Rosewood then it's 1979. If it's Ebony then the earliest it would is 1980. If you have lever switch electronics (rather than the 3 toggle switches) then it was made in 1982 or latter. Dates are located on the neck heel and neck pocket on the body.

Just got my first Stingray 5, a beautiful honey burst which is also my first 5-string and my first premium bass. Have played 4-string OLP and Squires for years. Now how the hell do you play one of these? Makes me feel like a newbie with that extra string.

Serial No: 32949 (appears on bridge plate only)
Black body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 2eq, 6-bolt neck plate, EB bridge (with string dampeners).
Can provide further info if required.

08585 is a bit too short to be one of our SN's- Maybe E08585, which is a Candy Red SR4-H?
