Rob,

I am at a loss here. While I can understand the reason for a neck swap, I am not sure what the motivation would be for a bridge swap. Is your neck lined or unlined?

New to the forums but not to MM basses

Hello all,

Am new to this forum but have had the pleasure of owning two MM basses over my two decades of playing bass. I've recently returned from a year in Costa Rica and have been reunited with the bass I purchased just prior to my departure: a natural finish 5-string fretless that only took me about seven years to find. It plays like a dream, even better than the black 4-string I owned in the late '90s, and I can't imagine willingly separating from it ever again.

I am very happy to discover this forum and this thread in particular as I'd love to know the DOB of my instrument. The serial is E21452. Please let me know if more info would be needed to obtain "birth" records, and thank you.

Looking forward to a long stay here,

-paco

Paco-your bass was completed on 3/08/01. It was originally shipped to GC #813 (Larchmont, NY). A great story with a happy ending! :D

Dan,

Thanks much for the info and the quick reply. I actually thought it was older than 2001, but not due to wear and tear. Just looks like a classic to me:)

The wood (tree) we used then as now would probably be ash - but there is a small chance it could be poplar in that period of production (August 2002).

Thank you very much :)

I'm very happy to inform you that I am now the proud owner of Axis SS G18964. Finally my collection of MM amps (Pre Ernie of course) have a worthy companion.

Would like to know the DOB and any specifics you might have...Thanks!!

Bit confused or bloody lazy. Been looking through serial number threads no sign of anything in or around my bass: Stingray 5: Fire engine (too red) maple neck (Birdseye) white pickguard/pickup. Serial 50331 (Bridge) It might have been one of the first fives in the UK

slowbo, welcome! You are probably right - your bass was completed on Dec 7 1988. The color is listed as "special" which comprises a lot of the early limited colors. It was originally shipped to our UK distributor.

I purchase my MM SR5 HH about a month ago. The serial number is E56442.

I cannot seem to find this serial number on your website. When I checked the link provided on page 1 of this thread. Am I looking in the wrong place?

The website is not a data base but mainly to help identify the vintage of older instruments.

But this is the correct place to come. Dan ("5Stringer") will be here soon to give you the date of your SR5.
