Hi! I just got my first Stingray and Musicman ever. I think I'll stick to it...it's got a few "dings" but feels great playing it and sounds great through my MP3 bass trainer (!). It was born in...2004? The number is E44774, can you tell me anything more?
Thanks!

klextas, welcome to Music Man addicts not-so-anonymous. ;)

Your bass was completed on 11/30/04, has a Honeyburst finish with a maple fretboard.

dob please

Long time no see, but it have been busy times. Anyway, I decided to go for a 5-string again and so I found a nice NOS Stingray 5. Serial says L58361. Can you give me the DOB for this bass please? By the way, it's a delight to play. Nice weight and super tone.

Thanks in advance!

Hi.

Good to hear from you!

The serial numbers don't have an "X". You also have too many "0"s. There should only be two "0"s (not three).

Your GUITAR (not Bass) is a Pre-Ernie Ball instrument. There is no data base for Pre-EB instruments.

The Sabre Guitar commenced production in 1978 if that's any help. They stopped making them after Ernie Ball bought Music Man in 1984.

P.S.

The "A" prefix in the serial number is correct for the Sabre Guitar. On the other hand, the Sting Ray Guitar is prefixed with a "G". The "B" prefix is for Sting Ray Basses and the "C" prefix is for Sabre Basses (these are all Pre-Ernie Ball instruments were talking about).

The "Sabre 1" Guitar has a flatter fretboard (12 inch radius) with jumbo frets. The "Sabre 11" guitar has a rounder fretboard (7 1/2 inch radius).

Dates can be found on the neck heel and in the neck pocket (on the body) but the neck has to be removed to view them. A luthier can do this for you for a small fee.

Sorry. I've Wrote Muicman Instead Of Musicman

The Question Stills Pending

Thanks for your patience, TV.

Sorry - the sad :( fact is that serial number record information for pre-EB guitars (and basses) does not exist. What's more, no one has taken it upon themselves to create a website that serves the purpose of tracking the serial numbers to get a sort of feel for when they were made the same way that Gavin has on the bass side at Home - Musicmanbass.org, Music Man, Musicman, Music Man Bass, Musicman Bass, Music Man Guitar - We do know that the Sabre Guitars, both I and II, were introduced in 1978 and were produced until probably 1984 (when the Music Man company was nearly bankrupt and was purchased by Ernie Ball), with the majority made in the first 2 years or so. Like the StingRay guitar before it, it suffered from sluggish sales, it probably was ahead of its time and was not readily accepted by most players.

Thanks for weighing in, Gav!

A001416 should be 1978. But, as I said above, the neck will have to be removed for positive date ID

Hi folks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place (I've used the search function... honest) but I'm trying to get some info on a Sterling that I've just purchased (used). It's a Cherryburst (I managed to find that much out myself) 4 string # F06634. Can you help or give me a push in the right direction?

Cheers
