Kai, Welcome to the Forum! Your Trans Blue StingRay 5/rosewood was built on Nov 1 1988 and was shipped to Musik Meyer, our German distributor. The body is poplar, the pickguard and pickup should be white. This was built during the original period when we were still using Alnico magnets and before we dreamed up the phantom coil. Earlier this year we switched back to Alnico after some 17 years of using Ferrite (ceramic) magnets in the pickup.

A collector's piece for sure!

Dan

Cool, thanx Dan,

seems the bass is in total original condition and still sounds great.
The only maintenance work was to replace the scratchy sounding potentiometers about 5 years ago.

-Korey :D

Wow, busy weekend I see! I hope you all do not mind if I answer these sort of en masse:

WB, your Trans Teal StingRay 5 was completed on 04/29/98 and was shipped to Massimino Music in Fraser, Michigan (now OOB).

Korey, your StingRay was completed on 11/09/01. The body is Ash.

Rinny, your StingRay couldn't be much earlier in the '90's - it was built on 12/04/90 and was shipped to Ed's Guitars (now OOB) in St. Louis, MO.

Jul,
Your Sterling in the original Blue Dawn finish was completed on 9/29/03 and was shipped to GC.

savanna, welcome to the Forum! Your new bass was completed on 12/11/02. Shipped to Union Grove Music in Santa Cruz, CA.

Steve, welcome to you as well! Your bass is showing up as a 2-band EQ Translucemt Red (probably was re-painted black) with a rosewood board - built on 3/3/88 and it was originally shipped to the U.K. to our distributor there.

Cheers to all!

Stingray year?

Hi there,

I just wondered what year my Sunburst 4 string Stingray was built, and any other info you might have serial #33049?

Thanks for your help.

Russ.

Russ, we show your (Vintage) Sunburst StingRay/maple being built on June 19 1991 - but here's the odd part: it was shipped originally to Japan through our distributor there.

Dave, congratulations on your new StingRay and welcome! Your bass was completed on Oct 15 2002 and has a Black finish with a rosewood fretboard. It was originally shipped to Guitar Center's central warehouse.

Cheers

Hmmm, interesting that. It's definately Vintage Sunburst, but it's a rosewood board, and I'm pretty sure it's not a '91, there's not a mark on it.

Russ, assuming the serial number is being reported correctly - that serial number falls right in line with being a 1991 bass - it was one of 11 of the exact same bass we shipped to Kanda Shokai, our Japanese distributor, in June of 1991. It did have a maple board, but it wouldn't be out of the question that the distributor would have done a neck swap. As far as the condition - well that's a blessing, isn't it!

You can use this website for reference if you still have doubts - www.musicmanbass.org (This is unofficial Music Man site is not maintained by EBMM or its employees - but we trust it as a pretty good source)

33049, yeah I've double checked.

Well thanks for the detective work Dan, much appreciated.

Yep, it's in good nick alright, and at the end of the day, it's a superb bass, how ever it ended up with me ;).

Thanks again.

Shipped to..

Hey Dan, I got the date of birth from you a little while ago for Serial number 59031. Do your records show where it was shipped? I don't know why but I just need to know! Thanks for all the hard work.
