I'm looking to find out info on how much an early pre-eb Sabre w/ serial number C004416 could be sold for. I am not a bass player but I've been told that this is a rare bass and a very early sabre because the serial number is behind the strings on the bridge and evidently only very early models had this. I imagine it is about a 1984 model from what info I could find on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at [email protected] because I don't know if I will make it back on these forums. Thank you

M, Pre-EBMM serial number records do not exist. I would think our moderator Gav will check in here soon and reveal things only a handful of human beings know about those basses.

In the meantime check out his site. (Obligatory Disclaimer: This site is not maintained or monitored by EBMM or its employees, nor is it an "official" site, though many have found it very useful) http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019/default.htm

Prices will obviously vary depending on condition. To get an idea, check the on-line Ebay auctions. They come up for sale there occasionally.

Pre-EB (and Ernie Ball) Sabres have always had the serial located on the bridge (never on the neck plate). Unfortunately, records don't exist for the Pre-EB instruments and the serials are not necessarily chronological.

Dates are located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body... the neck has to be removed for exact dating. Sabres with the toggle-switch electronics date from late 1978 to c.1983. Thereafter they changed to lever-switch electronics.

Some of the very early Ernie Ball Sabres also had C00 serials with headstock logos that made no mention of "Ernie Ball". These instruments have the string retainer on the A&D strings (Pre-EBs are on the D&G strings). Again, no records exist for these instruments but dates can be found as described above.

Ernie Ball aquired Music Man in 1984.

Used StingRay

I just purchased a used StingRay with the serial number of: E30062. Can someone tell me when it was made. The man who sold it to me said probably mid 90's.

Thanks!

Hi,

I wanted to ask/confirm the date of birth for my SR5. I bought it in Nov. '92 at Manny's in NYC. They claimed that it had been sitting in their attic for awhile and they had just put it out. Regardless, I knew right away it was the one for me!

Black, maple board. I am assuming that the pickup is alnico? Also, can you say what wood the body is?

Serial# 52120

Ciao A.J. - Thanks for the help. Amazing...

Regarding the non matching serial code. I've asked for a picture of the neck plate. The guy gave me the wrong number (?!?) ... The final number it's different: it's a E63389 trans red..

Does it makes any difference or should i consider it as a fake:eek:?

Rikki, sorry to take so long to reply .... according to our nearly-infallible records database, this bass was completed on 10/22/07 and is a Trans Orange. I realize Trans Orange and Trans Red can look similar, especially in pictures, so here is more info: It should have a maple neck and a white pickguard. It was shipped to our distributor in Italy.

Hope that helps ...

Thanks in advance!!!

All the best
Woyt, your StingRay 5 in Sapphire Black was completed on 9/20/07 and was shipped to Musician's Friend.

Colex, yes, your Pearl Purple Silhouette Special/trem/rosewood was completed on 6/28/96 and was originally shipped to Baltimore's Master Musicians (OOB)

jp, congrats on your new-to-you StingRay, but the seller is incorrect - your bass was completed on 4/03/02. The finish is called Autumn Red Burst, maple board, matching headstock, white pearloid pickguard. Nice!

I daresay it had to have been hidden somewhere if you just now bought it new-ish! It was built on 9/9/92 and was shipped to the Original Manny's. The body is Black, and the body wood in those days was Poplar for that finish. The neck is solid maple. The magnets should be ceramic (shiny) - alnico magnets are dull-looking.

Ha! No, I bought it *in* 1992, so just a couple of months after it was built. Interesting about the wood being poplar. It's very punchy. I believe the magnets are alnico, they're not at all shiny.

The neck is a dream with some amount of figuring and birdseye.

Thanks for the info!
