Steve, congratulations on your new StingRay. It was completed on 10/8/08 and was shipped to The Perfect Bass. It should compliment your Bongo H nicely. ;)

Hi,

My best friend (and bass player too) has just purchased a used Sterling (black/maple). S/N is F 04873.

Hopefully I was right telling him it was built late 2001 ?

Please EBMM people, if you can give me a bit more information about this bass, thanks in advance !
jaylegroove, you were correct about your friend's year and time of production. The exact date was 10/21/01. The body should be Southern ash, the neck maple, the finish Black. Was originally shipped to France.

Hey,

I'm new to the forum. Have been playing for maybe 6/7 years and have always ALWAYS wanted a 3EQ black stingray 4 with a black plate and a maple board. Well now I've got one and I couldn't be happier! I would however love to know its age,
the SN is 47771 - am I right in thinking late 95? Also, there are black screws holding the scratch plate on. should they be chrome? Annoys me because I think everything else is original.
Cheers
Karl

karl, welcome to Forum, and congratulations on getting your dream bass. If it has a black pickguard the screws should also be black. You are correct about the production date. Your bass was built on December 4 1995 and was originally sent to a store called Ace Music SuperStore (oob) in Dayton, Ohio.

Cheers,

Dan

Good day from suburban Chicago Dan, I have succumbed yet again. This one is a drop dead gorgeous Stingray 5, serial # E65242. As always, any and all info is greatly appreciated. You are the man, my friend!

Dan,
You stated that about 70 Sterling Pearl Purple S-Specials were made in 1996. Is there a similar story for Stingray Pearl Purple basses? I have one arriving tomorrow: Pearl Purple/Maple/Matching headstock, 2 band EQ. The store claims it arrived to them with a purple pickup cover, but then someone replaced it with a standard black. Could that have been stock?
I can provide the serial number tomorrow when the bass arrives. :)
Thank you,
Don

Cool! I remember us doing some of those .... it was sort of a contrast to the Silhouette Special that came out the year before, same S-Spec finish, called Pearl Purple, and a white pearloid pickguard as we only offered on the S-Specials back then, other than this of course.

Another interesting note: of the 70 or so of these built, all in 1996, only 8 stayed in the U.S. - the rest were shipped to our distributor in Germany.

Dan,
Just received a Bongo 5 (HHp), serial number F25869. What can you tell me? Thanks!

Stone, pretty familiar with this one .... this was just shipped out to Apple Music in your hometown on 11/20/09. Congratulations on your new beauty! It is a lovely Cabernet Pearl HH/Piezo with a white pearloid guard.

Don, not that I know of- the 1996 run, I am pretty sure, was just Sterlings. But in 1999, Pearl Purple was introduced as a standard color for all instruments - I suspect yours was made in that time period (1999-2001) but we can find out when we get the serial#.

Oh - and no, we have never used purple covers for StingRays.

Can you give me any info on a Sterling HS Nat/tort/rosewood, serial number F23089? I haven't been able to find any numbers close to it to get an idea of the production date.

Thanks

Tom, sure, your Sterling was made a giveaway for the first U.S. Emergenza tour. Built on 4/16/02.

Dan

Thanks very much, do you know if there is any other difference between regular sterling and this Emerganza tour besides a sticker o a body?
Thanks
Have a great day1
Tom
