Hi Y'all I am new to this fantastic site. I own 2 Sterlings , a black/mapleneck from Nov 2001 serial F04856, and an earlier fretless honeyburst/Pao ferro serial B04126 from around 1996. The link to the serial number database seems dormant as posts stop at 2003. Is there another way to get accurate dates or to access this site? Or am I doing something wrong?

No it is a MIJ Stingray EX model that was assembled for a short period in the 90's I believe.

The best way to go is to post your S/N here, and more often than not I can help you out with the DOB, along with the stock specifications on your instrument (if you ask). Personally, I'm not sure who keeps up musicmanbass.org, or if they are currently updating their stats.

You should be able to tell by the color of the pickup pole pieces. Ceramic pickups use bar magnets with separate pole pieces, which are very shiny like steel. Alnico is more of a grayish color.
